What is your opinion of older songs that have been redone. Are there versions you prefer from the original, or others you don't like as well...
For me, the rehash of I'm Free on Stripped is incredible...I like it a lot better than the original studio version.

Others....
Undercover live is great! Prefer it over the studio.
I prefer the live version of Sympathy off Get Yer Ya Yas, then recent live versions

What's your take?

Well...it's by no means a classic but I did prefer the faster LIVE 1981-82 version of LET ME GO over the studio version on Emotional Rescue.

As for classics....Loved when they brought back Monkey Man for the Voodoo Lounge tour. I like the studio version but the VL '94 version is a favorite.

Stripped Wild Horses is breathin'
hot down the collar of the original......

Under my thumb from Still life is fantastic. It's not better than the 1st, because they are so different, but both are indispensable classics.

It's a boot, but I much prefer Wild Horses in Saitama over the album version. In fact, I don't really like any other version and I LOVE that one.

Sweet Virgina from Stripped is great. Not better than Exile, but clearer, with a beautiful deep tone from Mick.

Factory Girl is, IMO, the highlight of Flashpoint (or the one and only light) and takes the cake over the Beggars version.

Tumbling Dice from Brussels is hot as hell, fabulous build up, another way of seeing a great song.

Well, there are lots... And Rambler, of course.

Wanna Hold You from the BTB tour was ten times better than studio.

Agree about Undercover live, and also Dance. Hot tracks live.

I also thought the Stripped version of Spider and the Fly was terrific.

Many of you are gonna slap me more some of this...

Although not a classic, I think OUT OF CONTROL is better on No Security. I dig the trumpet and they all sound great on it.

Around and Around - I like the Love You Live version better than the original, too.

Stripped, though, is a good album. Having said that, yes, Spider and Free sound better, but those songs aren't their greatest to begin with. I do like Not Fade Away better on it, but those three songs are the only ones off of Stripped which better the originals. All of the others sound like weaker versions, especially Let it Bleed and Shine A Light.

Wild horses & The Spider and the Fly are better on Stripped, way better.

Midnight Rambler is better then the original every time they play it live.

Out of Control on No Security is a gem.

That's How Strong My Love (FF) is better then their 60's recording of it.

Worried About You (also FF) comes close...

It's like 'Midnight Rambler' on Get Yer...and 'Miss You' on Rarities..'Under My Thumb' on Still Life...Little Red Rooster on Got Life...Na..that's wrong..nothing beats the original on Little red...or Tell Me...

Midnight Ramlber - Mick's voice on the LP is superior to all live versions.

Just My Imagination on Still Life (despite the edits) wins out over the studio recording.

I'll take this a little OT--

Did you ever hear the revamp George Harrison did on My Sweet Lord when they added bonus tracks to the reissue of the All Things Must Pass CD?

My first thought was "STOP! STEP AWAY FROM THE MIXING CONSOLE!"

I think the original Rambler is astonishing. A very different groove from the live versions, more bluesy, somehow more scary and less spectacular. That one, and also Thumb, are among my favourite slow grooves by the stones.
