Post 81' Tour, Which One Had The Best Satisfaction

For me Voodoo Lounge, sounded like the studio verison with Charlie's drumming

I like big drums. Drum shops generally don't have old stuff. To me, the second-hand stuff is part of the fun of drums. That natural kit that I use-that's an early Gretsch kit with the round logo on it.

steel wheels, as they attempted to rekindle the otis redding version. keith always said the single that was released was the wrong one. they had a version with hoprns in it that was suposed to be THE single. He said Otis Redding's version more resembled what the STones ahd intended to release.

B2B. Never heard the song better performed than this opener version. No jamming at the end, just the actual song. GREAT! I think the songs they play as the opening songs are much better than when they do them at the end. I get tired of the long endings with endless jamming verses. The only one I like that way is Tumblin Dice. That riff I could listen to for hours. But, as you all know, it never has been the opening song.... :-)

BTB - short but sweet.

Liked the Les Paul guitar sound on VL tour also.

One of the myths Keith brought up which are not true. They never recorded a horns-driven version of Satisfaction. Keith obviously likes Otis' version better than his own band version, but it's more like Otis' version reminded him of how the song could have sounded if the Stones would have worked on it a bit more in terms of further progression, but he also said that the band did not think much of the song when they recorded it, and at first even did not think it would be a good single. In the end, it was Otis who developed the song a bit further. No way that the released version was released "by mistake" and that they intended to release a different version. Satisfaction fits perfectly into their run of guitar-driven singles at the time and that's the way it was meant to be.

1998 Bridges to Babylon version of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" 'cuz they opened the show with a bang when they played it after the video intro and some firecrackers. This tour is a bigger bang.

uhh.......I've never heard that Keith said the single version of "Satisfaction" was the "wrong one" and that they Stones actually recorded a horn driven version. I have seen quotes by Keith, however, saying that the fuzz riff he played on the song was basically a sketch to indicate how the riff would go and that the riff might be played on horns. He has stated that he did not think the Stones single version was ready and that Otis Redding did a more fully realized version of the song, closer to the way Keith himself had originally concieved the song. Basically, I think Keith claims the single that was released was just a demo and he claims that his vision for the song was closer to version that Otis Redding did.

i probably mispoke (when i type these things at work, i am ususally in a rush) and the "demo" story or "unfinished version" is more likely what i had read. I think he said he wanted to add horns or he had a vision of the song with horns, but you are all right there is no horn version recorded by the stones.

I also thin it was satisfaction that Brian Jones HATED and would piss off the rest of the band by playing the "riff" to Popeye the Sailor man when doing it live, beasue he said they sounded the same (and noone could hear him over the screams anyway)

I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk

I been down South
You know I been out East
I been out West, but I'm not gonna rest

'Til I get to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk

I've been here, I've been there
Honey, I been some a-everywhere

But I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk

It's tie b/w B2B and VL. Opening with it is great, but the Les Paul was amazing in VL era.

However I absolutely despise the sound of it now on ABB. It sounded so out of whack at this past Giants Stadium show. And the guitar sound on the Licks Tour wasn't that great.

voodoo lounge version stunk.... licks tour was good, but they all pale in comparison to 69, 81, even 78 at chicago and philly was great and 72 with steveie wonder - uptight/satisfaction medley was terrific. voodoo lounge was "the worst" version of satisfaction of any tour.

VL for sure.
B2B and ABB gets honorary mentions.

VL tops all versions.

I would have said the 89/90 version, but I really hate the ..."let me hear you one time... - stuff", so it must be the B2B-version. Mick sang it a bit different.

Steel Wheels, particularily on my Tokyo video!

I very much agree that this tour's version, particularly as of late, has been awful. I hated it at Giants Stadium. The Licks version was good at the beginning before Lisa started her gospel vocals at the end. I like the BTB version with VL being right behind it.

I'm not a technical expert, but is Keith playing it double stringed lately ? (if that's the correct phrase). It almost sounds out of tune and is way too long IMHO

Keith does seem to have some strange ideas for Satisfaction at the moment doesn't he.
Some of the stuff he's playing is a liitle reminisecent of the ridiculous over-elaboration of the rif that MT was often guilty of when he played the number.
