have always loved Kirsty's music
- was lucky enough to catch her live, once or twice.

her premature death was a tragedy, and the resulting cover-up and disgraceful behaviour of the people involved, is disgusting.

Justice for Kirsty and her family!

What a coincidence. Yesterday I played 'Winning Ugly' for a colleague of mine.
I explained to him that many Stones-fans despise this song and that I cannot understand that (I love that tune, as I do love Dirty Work as a whole). The colleague (a musician himself) liked the track very much.
(If I'm not mistaken, Kirsty MacColl does background vocals on this song.
She was married to Steve Lillywhite, the producer of 'Dirty Work' at that time.)

Well, one thing led to another, the colleague didn't know Kirsty so I played an mp3 of 'Chip Shop' for him, he thought he knew the song, but thought it was a cover version. We did some web searching which proved that the song was actually an original from Kirsty MacColl.

I do own one cd of her ('Kite') which I think is also excellent. So today I did some web searching to determine if there is another cd I would like to buy from her.
Came across this one: [www.kirstymaccoll.com]
but allas, it is out of print (would love to hear the country version of 'Chip Shop').

Thanks for reminding me.
I gave her album "kite" as a present to my then girlfriend.
Way back in the good old vinyl-days.
I really like Kirsty's voice.
Tragic death, very sad.

Maybe, maybe not.

It doesn't state who is on exactly which track.

That's definitely Kirsty's distinctive voice on one of the alternate takes of 'Too Rude' thats on several bootlegs. Not sure if she's on the finished version - if so, shes down in the mix.

She had a great voice and was very talented. Her death was very sad and tragic.

Never meet her, but all from the Pogues just loved her. Great singer and not a bad songwriter either, and by all accounts a great mum and general good egg, whic means even more.

Hope the there is some justice in this and closure for her family.

R.I.P.

They Don't Know (which became a huge hit for Tracey Ullman) and Fairy Tale Of New York were her finest moments IMHO.

[news.bbc.co.uk]

The campaign seeking justice over the death of singer Kirsty MacColl is to cease its work, it has been announced.

Activists said they had made the move after the Mexican authorities announced the case had closed and all lines of inquiry had been exhausted.

The committee said it had achieved its aims and raised funds for MacColl's mother to pay lawyers' fees.

MacColl died in 2000 at the age of 41 after being hit by a speedboat while on holiday in Cozumel, Mexico.

Pogues hit

In a statement, the Justice For Kirsty campaign said once the case was closed they had nothing to fight for.

"We are not able to bring any more pressure on the Mexicans than we have achieved already," it added.

Speedboat deckhand Juan Jose Cem Yam was found guilty of culpable homicide in 2003, fined £61 and ordered to pay damages to MacColl's two sons, who witnessed the accident.

Justice For Kirsty was instrumental in forcing the Mexican inquiry to reopen in 2004.

MacColl's mother Jean Newlove will continue to work in a personal capacity to raise awareness of the key aims of the campaign, said the statement.

She said she wanted to thank everyone for their efforts, including The Pogues and singer Billy Bragg.

MacColl is best remembered for her Christmas hit with The Pogues, Fairytale Of New York.

She also worked with Manchester band the Happy Mondays and had solo hits including They Don't Know, There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis and a cover of Bragg's A New England.

Two charities in Latin America will receive the remaining funds from the campaign.

Absolutely disgusting. This guy will get his in hell I hope.

In the meantime let's all remember one of Kirsty's finest moments. Breaks me up everytime this one in the light of Kirsty's horrible death - and also as it never made it to the hallowed Number 1 spot.
