Dont forget that a few of those shows in July were rescheduled and therefore quite a few people wouldnt have been able to go to the concerts on the new date

Some serious papering there. No way do Gillette and Giants hold as few people as that for a rock concert

what do the two single digit numbers at the end of each entry mean?

Re: Complete 2006 Stones BOXSCORE (Jan.-Sept.)
Posted by: Gazza ()
Date: October 12, 2006 04:57

I think it means number of shows (at that venue) and number of sellouts

So, in Buenos Aires they played to 141,092 people, 2 shows, both sellouts

The prices quoted are a bit strange. At some of the American venues, they seem to include just the highest and lowest prices - yet theres a single figure for each of the European shows and the current American shows. I guess that means the average ticket price? (Total gross divided by number of tickets sold)

In which case, I find it hard to believe that the average ticket price for London was $134 (about £70). It was higher.

And if $91 was the average price for Gillette Stadium, when there were THOUSANDS on sale for $450, that suggests a large percentage of tickets were slashed by a huge amount to get 44,000 people in.

MicknSteven wrote
"There has been lots of talk about the Stones Playing Shows in Europe, i dont see that happening unless they play a few club dates here or there, but stadiums? Not based on those numbers...."

I think you're seriously wrong. If a band sells 909.233 tickets (not including the two cancelled spanish shows) doing 19 gigs, during a "shattered" european tour, with rescheduled -as Gazza notes- concerts, with these annoying ticket prices... THEN this band has strong reasons to prepare another stadium tour. And i'm afraid of something: unfortunately, they don't need to reduce the prices. Maybe only a bit...

Yes, in Europe 2006 they had only one sellout and 10 gigs close or very close to sellout. So what? Who cares about sellouts number today? Noone- expect a few ..."maniacs" like us. "Grosses- attendance", tickets sold- that's the most important thing. For them, for M. Cohl, for the music industry. According to Billboard (end of 2003), on the entire Licks Tour they sold out - worldwide- 60% of the gigs, only. Springsteen, 57%. I bet, not even Georgelicks remember it. Everyone remembers "Stones attracted 3.5 million people", "Bruce 2.8". Their tickets policy is based on this.

The attedance in Germany was really low. But even in Germany, where World Cup took place, the whole situation had been better in comparison to France 1998- another place, another summer of World Cup tournament. Then, in France they cancelled three out four (!!) gigs due to slow ticket sales. In 2006 they did five gigs- two of them (Coln, Stuttgart) very close to sell out. The others far from it, of course. But, i repeat, noone cares about this figure, if stadiums are giving a decent (atleast) picture. And Cohl knows how to do that.

Speaking about Europe 2007 they have a good base. Countries and cities in which they had sold well, before the @#$%& cancelations. Barcelona, Madrid, Sweeden, Brussels, Greece. I think they had sold 500,000 tickets approximately for all the canceled shows, right? Good base, unless people are still angry due to cancelations and want to "punish" them... I don't think so... Also, i think that they will hit again countries they've played in 2006. Maybe Germany (i bet for Frankfurt), Italy (i say it's Rome's time- last gig in 1990 there!), Holland (Kuip, not Arena), Enlgland (finally, Wemplay) and Paris.

By the way, only Paris number (62,761) surprises me. Reviews and articles (i mean France Press) reported about a packed stadium, 89,000 people! Phd was really proud of it. Hard to believe that only 63,000 people created this general impression. My point: ? smell something like Taxis tricks here- and perhaps not only in Paris. Am i a suspicious guy, mr Cohl???

On ABB tour the Stones have played to 2.9 million people for the time being - not including Rio's gig and fall tour. They will add 800,000 in USA - Canada until the end of the year. A number like 3.7 million before they'll play Europe again (and maybe Asia too) is more than remarkable. Counting 1.2 million from Rio's gig - something like officialy comfirmed number- total number turns to almost 5 million. IMO they can easily play to another one million or so in Europe next summer. Considering the prices, the high frequency of Stones tours in the last years, this is marvellous! MicknSteven, if they attract so many people, who cares if one stadium is filled 80% and the other for 95%? Who, really?

If the numbers Georgelicks provided are correct as of Sep. 29, then they might break the 400 million barrier very soon- maybe around the Oct. 17th show.

I looked at all the shows post Sep. 29 and figured they should add at least another 50 million to the 380 million they have already piled up according to Georgelicks. As it stands now the tour should gross about 430 million.

Of course "MickNSteven" knows more about the "real" numbers than the official tallies. Why bother having official industry tabulations...why don't they just ask him?

I just don't understand why people are getting so down about the lack of sellouts. Yes if they were playing a 10,000 seat arena and didn't sell it out it might be embarrassing, but if you sell 50,000 tix at a stadium that holds 60,000 who gives a crap if it's a sellout or not.

They don't custom build these stadiums for the Stones. Some are big, some are gigantic. If the stadium held 50,000 it would have been a sell out. So the stadium is a little bigger. Big deal.

Look at the big picture- their average attendance in Europe was nearly 50,000. If Europe sales are disappointing to someone then I think it is just nitpicking. Like getting a Jaguar for Christmas and complaining about a small scratch on the hood.

Is ABB Tour is going to be a world record?
Which is the world record till this time? Vodoo Lounge? Numbers?
What about Madonna or U2?

World record is held by Voodoo Lounge, but A Bigger Bang has already beaten it I think.

I think both the ABB tour and Vertigo tour have already surpassed the Voodoo Lounge tour. I think when all is said and done it will be;

1)ABB tour
2)Vertigo tour
3)Voodoo Lounge tour (maybe the most successful when you take ticket prices into account).
