"Its also a fact that ticket sales are flat for this leg of the stones tour."
Does your statement include Halifax, Louisville, Wichita, Missoula or Regina? I don't think so. I know, for Boston and NYC gigs they reduced the prices of some tickets, they had offers. And probably the Stones will do the same also for the cities they played recently, three or four times. SO WHAT? This is a logical "counterbalance" to the highest ticket prices. Why did they planned stadium shows in Boston, NY, LA, Chicago, after having played many shows in these cities- including stadium shows? Because they are fools? No. Because they knew that, even having some offers, they fill the stadiums, once again.
To be honest their method is not a fair one: the big majority of fans pay "regular" (if i can say that), high prices while some people "catch" the offers. But, from a financial point of view, their policy is smartest. First of all, they play in packed (or almost) stadiums, again. Also, selling 80% or 75% of the tickets in the "official", high prices and making cheaper the rest 20% -25% is a policy more profitable than giving much lower prices for all, from the start. I repeat, no fair, but smart policy. Personally, i don't give a shit for the grosses. But i'm very glad when they play to almost 200,000 people in NYC, during this tour. I'm very glad seeing that they remain, not only the best live rock band, but also the most popular live act in the world.
MicknSteven, i don't know what exactly do you consider as "bad" if not "terrible" sales, as you wrote on another thread. Just see the conditions and the facts.
The conditions: this tour takes place just two years after Licks. Prices are high and fans very often take their time before buying tickets. The facts: either selling slow or selling fast, on ABB tour the Stones are attracting a hugest number of people- as usual. At the end of the tour this number, as for USA- Canada, will be 2.3 million people or so. Totally. So...
...So, MicknSteven, i can't wait for the day i'll hear you saying: "The sales had been horrible, because 35,000 tickets out of 2,3000,000 were from offers" (Just kidding...)
