Hey Guys, looks like a poll of Stones Fan of the best Albums Include albums after Sticky Fingers, what about the ealry albums, 12X 5, Englands Newset Hit Makers, ext ext. How do you guys feel about the Early stones? why are none of thoes albums ever mentioned? Your Thoughts please

ROLLING STONES NOW.... i think its in the top 10 best stones albums...

lurv 'em all. For US releases, my fave would probably be "Rolling Stones Now"

I love the early albums. It was the 1963-1968 Stones that I first got into.

The problem with those early releases is that they are such a mess. When the CD age kicked in they really should've just ditched the US releases in favour of the UK ones. It would've made a lot more sense. The Stones themselves had absolutely nothing to do with the likes of Decembers Children, Flowers etc.

The Beatles had the same problems, but of course they sorted it by reissuing the Parlophone originals and then bringing out Past Masters Volume 1 and 2.

My favourite early releases are Between The Buttons and the UK debut. Route 66 works so well as the opener.

the record company may have released DECEMBERS CHILDREN & FLOWERS...
but they have some great gems in both...and with kleins remixing on the scad's they sound even better... flowers has sooooo many great tracks..
even to get it for just the song.. sittin on a fence..

Very true and being only 23 and aside from the few originals my dad had on vinyl, the US versions were the first I got accustomed to. In fact, Decembers Children was the very first Stones CD I ever bought. I like it a lot, but I still stand by my original point and aside from nostalgic Americans, Id of thought most would agree that ditching the London versions would’ve been the more logical move.

Sitting On The Fence was also released on the sadly now redundant, UK version of Through The Past Darkly

Frankly, I feel that every thing from the Brian Jones period
represents their best stuff.

I am the other side of the coin

I think the Brian era is among their worst stuff... excluding BB & LIB (both are barely in the BJ era)

BEFORE everyone goes balistic on me, let me say that I LOVE THE STONES

every era, all the albums have stuff I love... and I have a STRONG appreciation for the pre 68 music

I just like the golden era to the present more than the early years

The reason why Radiomarv and marvpeck don't share their view on this, is simply because Radiomarv has his Radio on the correct side, while Marvpeck has his Marv on his wrong pecker.

The Stones mark I is a long time ago and therefore not discussed as much as mark II & III. But I love some of the old stuff.
A favourite of mine is Out of Our Heads (on vinyl), UK Track listing:

(and if there's been any shortage of mention of the early albums around here recently, it's just a fluke)

with ssoul, I couldn't agree more! It's such FUN to hear them as they were at the beginning - "happy, hungry, learning..." and they sound as if they are enjoying the process, too. No, the albums aren't as good as the "golden era" masterpieces. There is stuff on there that they would bury deep, deep in a very dark vault these days - but there's such enthusiasm and joy in their music that nothing else matters.

Remember that this is the band, and this is the music, that made the Stones a worldwide success with my generation before Beggars Banquet etc. were ever dreamed of.

Actually, I think Courtney Love summed up the pre-68 Stones very well in an interview. She described them as "a great singles band" as apposed to being a great album band. She was right too.

Courtney Love is now considered expert on our beloved band? sigh....

I don't know, I think everyones entitled to be a fan. It was in an issue of Mojo magazine a few years back and she was talking about how Marriane Faithful and Anita Pallenberg were two of her icons or something like that. Keith was in the same issue gushing over Muddy Waters.

Out Of Our Heads was the scapel - Rolling Stones Now did the actual surgery!

One of the greatest most ENERGETIC enthusiastic albums ever recorded is the most superb debut album by the Stones. The first one IMo is the best one from the very early period. (Which ends with Decembers)
In the mid period when they (in accordance with Courtney Love) became a album band I love "Buttons". Yes I love Buttons more than Aftermath.
And I too feel like here on IORR we don't pay enough attention to these first albums. It;s al;ways as if it all started with Banquet. Satanic gets the special menmion as the "Big Experiment" whicxh either worked or failed.

My very first album I got as a kid was 'Out Of Our Time'. I can talk about that for ever...

Music changed between 67/68 so beat became modern rock music. Everything since cames from that period, whether it's punk or Britpop. I like the early stuff but prefer the later stuff.

That's a great album, but the US version, with Satisfaction/Spider & The Fly/Last Time/Play with Fire, while thrown together by the record company, is one amazing album!!

By the way, I'm not sure it qualifies as an "early album" but Aftermath is probably as essential as the "big four" and should be part of any respectable R&R collection.

Aftermath is the first one of the non-Early Albums, by my way of thinking. Here, the band is forging new territory and not relying on cover songs anymore.

yea, aftermath is the last great brian jones album.....he worked his ass off making this a great album ..love it..in the top 10 best stones album..
