9/20 Either the Stones prove it or Don't
Posted by: chrisking ()

Coming from a 21 year old rolling stones fan. I have been lucky enough to see them on every tour since BTB. Twice during the last stop in San Francisco. I have to say 2 excellent shows, including after seeing U2 and Sir Paul the week before. Now i have seen 5 shows by the stones. Only one Show really had a difference in the setlist from the other ones, that was of course No Security and some of the licks show. I mean don't get me wrong getting As Tears Go By was pretty amazing. But as The Who raise the bar with setlist. There has been a lot of bashing of the stones setlists. Which is understandable if i've been going to see them for 30 years i wouldn't mind not hearing Satisfaction, Brown Suguar, JJ Flash or IORR. Now i think the Stones have something to prove on this one. Lets hope later tonight.........The Stones prove they still got it with a setlist of new and old, a set that can make everyone go they proved me wrong. Im hoping so, i still dont have a ticket and if these rehearsals r anything to show the new setlists........than i should have one really soon. So to all Stones fans.......Lets see what our boys got

When looking at the calendar that IORR has up with the upcoming dates posted, it looks like the Stones could possible come up with an adventurous setlist for the small show because they are all lumped together: there is NJ, Beacon and one other one afterwards all back to back. Chicago coming up too. It would make snese for them to reherase something good because they will have a realistic chance to perform them.

On the other hand, theres not much chance performing them as it will be a one off and the number of fans in the audience who'll know them or who will care could be measured in the hundreds. At best. And if the only theatre show is the Clinton gala, the amount of fans who could relate to a few rarities could probably be emasured on one hand.

Regarding the Who - they deserve a lot of credit for having the balls to play new songs in their current show. Especially considering the fact that their album wont be out for another 6 weeks. However, in the last two decades , if youre talking about adventurous setlists, the Who's make the Stones' ones look as random as the Grateful Dead's by comparison. Its only on this current tour that things have changed.

I really feel that the Stones have something to prove. Not performance wise, but in the studio and song selection definitely. Younger fans are no longer going to several shows as it's seen as a one time thing were you see the hits and then can tell your kids you saw the Stones when you were there age. I think thats a shame as the shows could mean so much more to several generations.

Every youngster (Why do I sound like an old geezer when I say that?) I have heard from or talked with after the Horsens concert said that it was cool, and probably the best concert they have seen. And it's true. Even my friend Jacob, who is a fan of Roxette, said it was his best. Also a girl from my class wanted to borrow ABB and Forty Licks (And she's HOT and VERY nice).

IamtheDJ: At the moment I'm digging Young Americans. Great record. :-)

Sure. She borrowed it. I hope she forgets so I have to go to her place and get it back. Maybe I can check her pipes. ;-)

My question is certainly stupid : roughly 10 hours before before this gig : do you feel a 100 % relax / cool ? I should but I can't.

I'm not saying that kids my age don't enjoy the shows. Most are bowled over, However, they rarely feel the need to rush out and blow their money on all things Stones as I do!

JumpingKentFlash: Young Americans is one hell of a record!

well, yes - although its hard to get much of a 'tingle' via a computer 3,000 miles away

However, I'm looking forward to next summer already, so thats not a bad sign.

Amen brother. I was there for both San Francisco shows as well. Good if not spectacular. The highlight was easily Sweet Virginia the first night. They still have not done it since. So it is time to see what they got left. I will be there when they come to Oakland, also going to Phoenix to see them. If they really do shake up the setlist, I will gladly go to more shows.

That's the attitude. They are STILL the world's greatest Rock & Roll band. name me on other group that can still attempt(if not fill) stadiums after 40 years.

Next Summer? What about the precious present? Yourself, Kent, Stod and many others need to get your azzes over to Louisville (Churchill show) for the Mother of all gigs on this NA Fall tour! You guys need to step up smiling smiley! And me among others will return the favor in '07.

Hey I got a 'tingle' from reading about the london shows from 7,000 miles away. Or was that tinkle from all the beer I was drinking?

Well a lot of people took shots at the comment of something left to prove.....u say they have nothing to prove than.......maybe these guys should stop playing and retire........since like you have all said they have nothing left to prove.........in my eyes they have something to prove to my generation, that is to prove if they r worth the price i pay for them. And if tonight's setlist is any indication of the rest of this fall tour than they r. If they go back to safe set than they aren't. Cause unlike most people some straving college students do care about the setlist!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I'm trying to. But I can't afford it at all. What I do is taking part in travel competitions on the net. I hope I win, but I never do.

JKF-

Find a way over the pond and you've definitely got a place to stay at my house-for the Louisville show that is... After last night's setlist I think I'm 100% in on the Chicago show too!-unbelieveable!

It was the show had to do. Nearly all reports conclude that they did it at 101 %. Fantastic setlist. Nevertheless, I think it was not in terms audience the forecasted figure : 43,000 out of 60,000 is only 71 %. I know it'was the fifth time within a year. But I am sure Mr. Cohl did not convince The Kraft with that number when the deal was signed. But, Music won.
