official live album "Bigger Bang"
Posted by: RollingStonesFan ()
Date: September 19, 2006 16:55

I know there are many people here, who dislike any ideas of official live-albums for thus tour but I think, although we real fans already have lots of good and better bootlegs of this tour, it's okay, to have at least one official document of this tour. And I'm sure that it will come, both CD and DVD.

But does anybody know, if there are already serious plans?
May be a live-album in the style of "No Security" with rarities like "Sway", "Ruby Tuesday", "She's So Cold" or "All Down The Line".

Any news? Opinions?

A live album from each tour is a very good idea no matter what people say. We still miss a VL live album, not to mention some from 72 and the like.

Stripped as a VL 'live' album was more than fine for me.

sell them through their website (ideally full shows from down the years) and donate the proceeds to charity

A much better alternative than seeing them filling up the £5.99 bargain bins in HMV within a month of release and a nice way of restoring some credibility.

The Stones is a band that started in the time when live albums were allowed to make. That's the reason why I think they should continue doing it.

To Gaz: They won't make it for charity. And that's cool with me. And I agree in full live shows. But a good thing would be to take a good track from different concerts (From each tour) and then make the complete standard setlist with all those tracks. That's the way I'd want it. Come to think of it, it would be a quite good introduction to the bootlegs. :-)

I LIKE TOO SEE THEM do half 8 tracks new studio stuff and about 13 live songs from the tour.. like sway, etc..
mixing the songs would be kind of like the old days when they put on a live track or 2 on their studio album...

then it be a bigger bang...plus if they had a hot new track---it would sell more albums and pump up ticket sales!

Speaking of charity, I still think they should add a date in New Orleans (for Katrina folks-charity) while they're back here in the Fall.

Agree with JumpingKentFlash. We should expect nothing less than an official live album from each tour...
The Beatles were a studio band, and the Stones have always been a live band.

I have always favoured the idea of delivering full shows on live albums instead of mish-mashing songs from various shows. But, let's face it, nowadays a complete Stones show where all tracks are performed well enough to justify an official release is extremely hard to find. So in case of the Stones, I would rather prefer a recreated complete set using the best possible performances from different shows. Otherwise, you may get top-notch, energetic performances of a couple of songs in the set, but @#$%&-ups on Brown Sugar or lame renditions of Honky Tonk Women or what else. Doesn't make sense to me. If I want to hear Sway or Back Of My Hand on an official release, I want to hear the best version available. For warts'n all, there's still the bootleg stuff out there. And no blasphemous Rocks Off edits anymore, please!!!

I think they should release each show in its entirety just like the Who, who seem to be mirroring the stones with the virtual ticket thing. So why not have the boys mimick the who finally with live albums. God knows I'd buy em all just to have in my collection.

Hows this for a killer BB live album?

Jumping Jack Flash (best ever version this tour and not on CD since Flashpoint)

Rough justice ("its a boogie woogie!")

Shes so cold (for rarity appeal but eh guitars were horrible at both gigs I saw)

Midnight rambler (much overdue since Ya yas)

Oh No not you again

Sway

Streets of love (great live)

Miss you (best stab at this one since 78 this tour )

Get off of my cloud

As tears go by

bitch (great version, not too fast ahs has been said on this board before)

Lets spend the night together (should have been on No Security)

Honky Tonk women (horribly s-l-o-w version on Live Licks, needs replacing)

juiced up and sloppy

whats the Beatles got to do with it?

The Stones are MUCH more than a live band. You're doing them an injustice by dismissing their recorded output so lightly. They've the greatest back catalogue of any band in history. By a @#$%& mile.

you'd buy 160-180 double CDs (because thats how many shows they'll play by this time next year) from this current tour "just to have them in your collection"?

thats why I prefer the idea of selling them through their website (or a site like themusic.com) instead of in the shops. The appeal is limited, and they wont be subject to the same critical analysis if its marketed as a souvenir for people who were at the shows. No dubbing or editing required.

Just mix it so it sounds like you are sitting on the stage rather than in the 25th row.

it they were mixed more or less like the glasgow fm, we'd have something worth having. best mix of a latter-era show, imo...cruching geetars and all....

Hei Gazza, well to answer your question, I was talking about a principle on how I think the Stones strategy for releasing live material should be. One day when the band doesn't excist anymore it would be greate to be able to go back to every tour they did, and recapture the greate feeling of hearing the band live from any period of their career. Whats the beatles got to do with it? -I think the Stones sertaintly will be compared to the Beatles among many other super groups in the future as well, and unlike the Beatles, the Stones are a band that's actually is worthy the status being considered a greate live band. I didn't have the intention of saying that the Stones didn't have the greatest back catalogue of any band in the historywinking smiley

Tony, the man who's responsible for all the computers used in the stage production, told me in Bergen, Norway, that they're taping every song from every show. "Why don't you release them all as official bootlegs"? I asked. "I assure you, this material will be used. It will be released", he answered.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatchedwinking smiley
But it would be very nice to hear JJF, All Down The Line, Midnight Rambler, Brown Sugar and Satisfaction from Bergen again!

No, seriously, Stonesvikings have a good relationship with EMI/Virgin in Sweden.
So a live CD, and vinyl is planned right now, but things can change of course.

Theyve recorded almost every show since the early 70's, shidoobee

His answer doesnt really answer your question, though, as I'm reading it. He's saying the material will be used for release, but hes not saying all of it will be. That just suggests to me that they'll cull an official live release from the shows theyve recorded. As usual.

Makes no sense at this stage of the tour, 100 shows in, to suddenly start releasing every show from August 2005 onwards. They've missed the boat with that one. Had they done it in a similar way to the way the Who did it (where you can pre-order the Cds and/or DVDs of each show bevore it takes place and receive it within 6 weeks) that would make more sense.

i don't see the point in releasing another double live album: it just won't sell! A dvd release with lots of promotion? Maybe. Everyone who wanted to buy a Stones live album in recent years has had plenty of albums to choose from. What will a new one add?

The instant live idea is a good one. That's what they should have done. I'll probably buy the new live album anyway, but it is likely to gather dust as quicly as Live Licks. Just the thought of another highly overdubbed release... Man, let them do some club gigs (as in 1977) and release something 'new'.

Nail-head interface there, my friend; it's been done as well. Pearl Jam went and sold eaach date from one of their tours in record store...each a limited edition in plain-ish slipcase with just the venue and date on the cover.

Alternatively, the Pixies on their last tour allowed fans to order a soundboard recording almost immediately after the gig.

only prob is that promoters/venue owners might want their cut; which brings clearchannel into the mix. I'm not *saying* that's a good thing or a bad thing, although i have my firm beliefs on that front...
