What do you think yourself, Shidobee?
Is there any suitable venue in Trondheim?

It's the largest fotball-venue in Norway.

According to the promotor, football stadiums in Norway are rather unsuitable because they cannot run fork trucks across the field... Because of the long winter here in the arctic region, the grass doesn't grow as well as in Southern Europe. So I'd say Lerkendal is unsuitable. You can't stage a Stones-show without using fork trucks for the real heavy stuff that needs to go in.
Valle Hovin in Oslo is a better alternative. The logistic's good. Tube, busses, parking spaces. Hotel capacity - night life! And it's a skating rink in the winter. The surface is concrete. The Stones have played there 4 times already. Number five will be amazing!

No, that's actually Ullevaal stadium in Oslo...

New football stadium in Sundsvall with 8 500 seated
and artificial grass may be another alternative.
Two gigs there..?

What does Östersund have - anybody knows?

Logistics... Airport, train, hotels, busses, nightlife... Don't think so. Sorry - the place is too small and too off Broadway for The Stones. Let's go for 2 shows in Gothenburg in stead!

Is there another place in Oslo, besides Valle Hovin, they can play? Yeah, I see Ullevaal is mentioned, maybe that can be a better place? Haven´t been there, and not too fond of Valle Hovin.
I guess they used trucks when they had Aha at Lerkendal. Nowhere near what is used for a Stones show, sure, but I guess they have thought about this when they started talking about the Stones at Lerkendal. But it won´t surprise me if they haven´t, haha:-)

<No, that's actually Ullevaal stadium in Oslo>

Seems like you're right smiling smiley

Capacity 21.166 (Lerkendal, Trondheim)

Capacity 25.572 (Ullevål, Oslo)

In this context a local band like a-ha is just a little "pee in the ocean". They don't even have their own stage. They couldn't even ruin my private lawn if they tried to...
Valle Hovin is not a perfect place - but probably the most suitable in Oslo. Ullevaal is the national football (soccer!) arena. They already have a problem with the grass up there... Not a good idea to send 50 Stones trucks and 15 fork trucks into the field! Otherwise - good logistics. Nice place. Great back stage arrangements with 50 marvellous bathtubs, massage function etc. But no beer in the stands, I think...
The Lerkendal fanatics can dream on. I doubt that many of them have seen how BIG the Stones-stage is, nor the complicated operation to set it up. They're amateurs and last time when they signed a contract with the Stones - they couldn't raise the money. Very embarrassing - and I doubt that Cohl will deal with them again... I'll just say: Leave it to the pros - Rune Lem, GE Concerts. He's done this houndreds of times, and he knows the guys. He's not a wannabe.

Local band a-ha... Good mornin!
Are ya born after 1984-85, or did ya just sleep when they
were the hottest band in the world?

You Southerners have had your share for forty years.
Now time for you to travel.
A great fan stock for the Stones (100s of 1000s) lives
in the Northern part ofd Scandinavia.

It's a while since they were big outside Norway... I toured with them in '87. Now - they're a local band.
And Baboon Bro, let's not make this a question of North and South! I'm willing to travel anywhere to see the Stones - and have done so for decades. However - one has to be realistic: Logistics, hotel capacity, suitable - HUGE- stadiums. Stockholm or Gothenburg - you can make it there - I'm sure! And Oslo - just a kiss away!

An indoor show in Oslo (Spektrum) would suit me better than Valle Hovin, but whichever venue is chosen, I will probably be there. Koengen was fine, excellent sound! Any similar places in the Oslo area that is used for concerts?

Holmenkollen! There was this gigantic hippie event there in 1971... This 13 year old (at the time) ran off from home to be there. The event was called Ragnarock. Here's a link to the Holmenkollen ski jump arena!

I don't know if it's possible, but it would certainly be spectacular. For the Arena Show: Oslo Spektrum. For the Club Show: Sentrum Scene.

Anyway, anywhere.
But what is this Norway-thing?
For all of us that missed out 2003 it makes no sense.

Sweden has the largest audience.
Where did Finland go in this thread?

I remember reading that a stadium show in Stavanger was considered for this summer before Bergen got the show. Did the promotor back out, or was it because of the venue?

Denmark had the largest audience, even if the Gothenburg show had taken place.

Slow tickets sales in 03, plus the originally scheduled St Petersburg show -> no show in Finland.

I think what Bro means is that Sweden is more of a Stones country. And it certainly is more of a Stones country than Denmark I think.

The local Bergen staff, Bergen Live, paid more! And could present a more spectacular venue.
But as we speak of spectacular: go to www.skiforeningen.no and check out the Holmenkollen ski jump... Now, it's an amfi - there's water, you can see for miles around (not 3000 lightyears, though - not without magic mushrooms, anyway!) It's beautifull up there.

I've been to Holmenkollen a few years ago. And I agree, it would be a spectacular venue for a show.

If it's possible to get the Stones trucks up there - I'd say GO GO GO! What an event it would be! Former record audience is 105.000 during the ski jump competition for the 1952 Winter Olympics...

You mean this place: [www.skiforeningen.no] ??? What's special about that? Bergen looked better. Do you have a different pic to show what you mean?

If they play there during summertime, there will be a huge gap between the band and the audience due to the water. I know this is not a good picture, but you can see the space between the stage and the crowd.[www.skiforeningen.no]

Main stage on top of the ski jump and the b-stage is on skis and slides down the slope. LOL. They better end with the b-stage then.
