I love Columbus and he's great there IMO. But there is a great improvement still.

Brewscrew1987, I fully agree. Judged on the recordings of Twickenham and Glasgow, Ronnie is much better than he was the first part of the ABB tour. His playing shows confidence, he knows what he's doing and the fear in his playing is gone.

This tour reminds me off 1994 and 1995. They were ragged in 1994 but good (Same as this one) and in 1995 they played perfectly. Like this one too....

I have enjoyed these Uk shows and have been suprised by the performances, but anyone with ears cannot honestly say that Keith is the guitarist he was in 1995.
The simple fact is that he has crippling arthritis.

Under the circumstances he is doing incredible work,no doubt in some pain.

Listen to Gimme Shelter from Parisido or All down the Line from Brixton.
Voodoo Lounge was the last time we witnessed the "Human Riff" . Although he pretty much covered for Ronnie on BTB as well.

He is a Hero !BUT be realistic.

Ps as far as Ronnie is concerned - Yes he has improved, especially with the Gibson S.G.

agreed. It was very refreshing to hear how well he played at the UK shows.

Maybe all that nitrous oxide he inhaled at his party did him some good!

Ahhh, listen to both solos on "Sway" from Glasgow - that's him now again!!!

Ronnie is such a great player and artist - let's just give him thanks and appreciation for what he has done for the Rolling Stones in the past 31 years.

THANK YOU, RONNIE !!!

The difference is nothing short of amazing. I really thought he just simple lost his touch. When he said he rarely went on stage sober he was being straight (haha).
Now I see he was just drunk and/or stoned. Listening to early Sway leads were just painful, now soulful, fluid and enjoyable. (I really did not think he was cabable of these anymore!) More than just better solos, better overall playing with new confidence.

Cheers to sober Ronnie!

I don't know ince I didn't hear him play after Amsterdam. But in my very humble opinion, even if Wood played 500% better he still plays mediocre at best. In Amsterdam Wood really lost all the feeling he ever had with guitar playing.

I thought the same, and it warms my heart to hear him lately and
read the feedback here. I wonder if, after the first months
of the tour, someone sat him down with tapes of the shows and
made him listen to his own solos. I picture him doing that
wincing he does while playing, but this time in cringing reaction
to his own work. Anyway, a big kudos to Ronnie, and I hope that
all of his many detractors here have gotten to hear what he's
still capable of.

IMO also his recent playing with shows early on the european tour was OK and sometimes great. In Milan i heard the best Ronnie's solo on YCAGWYW in years. Don't forget, his playing very often gives "new spirit" in a song like Streets Of Love.

I have not heard the recent UK shows yet but the tapes don't lie. Your impression at a particular show may vary but in the aftermath the tapes don't lie. It is great to hear that Ronnie's playing has improved. Ronnie Be Good!

On an aside I thought his playing was excellent at the start of the 2002 tour, very impressive @ MSG in Sept. 2002, and then progressively got worse and worse as the tour wore on in to 2003.

I must say that I was disappointed again with his playing at the start of the US ABB tour.

The positive reports from the UK shows will make me re-think whether to attend any Fall US shows.

Right now I'm looking at Faces footage from London 73 with both Ronnie's in the band..Woodie is just awesome..now I have 71 from the Saturday club, the one from 74 with Keith sitting in and this new one..at the end there is concert footage mixed in with the studio tracks, great footage.PS Kilburn 74 Ronnies solo concert is the shit, also 79 Largo New Barbarians.....A bit off topic but I got excited. Great news about Ronnie B Goode!!!

I had the privilege of seeing Ron up close and personal during his tour with Bo Diddley in the mid- 80s, when the Stones were on hiatus. He played with them at a club in Pittsburgh, and I was there. The band played two shows, and my girlfriend and I had tickets for the first one, so we just remained seated as the second one started. I'll never forget when I raised my glass to Ron, and he actually noticed me.

Needless to say, Ronnie is by far my favorite Stone. After hearing the Glasgow show, I'm happy to report that he seems to be sharp and focused.

For those who will be attending the US shows, I strongly recommend that you give Woody all the support he so strongly needs, and deserves.

Even after all this time, I think that Ronnie feeds more from crowd support than any other Stone, besides Mick.

I'm listening to his lead in "YCAGWYW" from Glasgow, and he exhibits some of the riffs I heard from his inaugural tour in '75. Beautiful.

Yes, I noticed that too. I was so amazed on how good the Stones played on the shows I saw....and Ronnie really played so great!

Woody was great at Twickers last week. I think it's absolutely right that Keef's arthritis is really hurting his own playing these days.

Ronnie has improved so much I was amazed by him . After the first half hour at Twickenham I thought 'My god, Ronnie's on fire!' and he was at every UK gig. Solo's on Sway and YCAGWYW, brilliant. If he keeps playing like this you're all in for a treat in the States!

And your point is?.......

Re: Ronnies guitar playing has improved greatly

I'm encouraged, as a Wood fan since I bought "Gasoline Alley." I thought Ron w/ Bo in '87 was a mess, looked like he was on lots of coke, came running out, clenched jawed grin/grimace, in the middle of the second or third song, and I thought of Johnny Thunders' shows from the previous few years...And his voice was a husk...The '93 solo shows I saw seemed much tighter, more focused, and less ragged than the all-star New Barbs show...Then I saw him barely play on one Licks show, kick ass at another. His last solo album, parts of ABB, and some ABB shows proved he could still play and kick ass, but for Wood it seems sobriety really is essential. I hope he knows it. So I'm glad for that recent rehab stint.

I have metioned so many times before - alcohol and drugs the ruin musical creativity on long term...

Just take a look at Keith ...... his participation in new stuff / songs has dropped immensely.... why???? the drugs has "killed" his brain... sorry to say so, but it is a sais fact..... people disagreeing don't know the about the terrible bad impact alcohol and drugs has on a persons brain capacity....
