35 songs in 4 shows - Setlists seem fine 2 ME!
Posted by: RadioMarv ()

I am getting really pumped to see the boys in Chi and Ky. They will be the last shows I will see on this tour. I have already seen 4 shows on the BB tour (Columbus, Durham, Charlotte and Baltimore)

this is BY FAR the most shows I have seen on one tour and in four shows I have seen them play 35 different songs. With 2 shows left I will probably see 37 songs or more.

I feel like this is a good amount of tunage for 4 different shows. I don't get the folks who bitch about the set list. It has been a troubled and long tour BUT the boys always give the best show on EARTH!

four shows have given me

1.Brown Sugar
2.You Got Me Rocking
3.She's So Cold
4.Tumbling Dice
5.Rough Justice
6.Back of My Hand
7.Sway
8.All Down the Line
9.Mr. Pitiful
10.The Worst (Keith)
11.Infamy (Keith)
12.Miss You
13.Oh No Not You Again
14.Shattered
15.Honky Tonk Women
16.Sympathy for the Devil
17.It's Only Rock 'n' Roll
18.Start Me Up
19.Jumping Jack Flash
20.You Can't Always Get What You Want
21.Satisfaction
22.Wild Horses
23.Dead Flowers
24.Bitch
25.Night Time Is The Right Time
26.Out Of Control
27.Ruby Tuesday
28.Paint It Black
29.Let's Spend The Night Together
30.Love Is Strong
31.Midnight Rambler
32.Gimme Shelter
33.Get Off Of My Cloud
34.This Place Is Empty (Keith)
35.Happy (Keith)

with 2 more shows in my future I hope to get Worried About You or Tears Go By
also counting on Slipping Away and BTMMR.

A very fair scattering of songs IMO.

After the Twick shows I say the set lists are fine

CANT WAIT FOR 9-29 and 10-11

Thank you RadioMarv.

Love your philosophy re the setlist!

And did they rock in Baltimore or WHAT?

Remember, that was the last show before their Super Bowl performance, and Mick put it ALL on the line when he positively went OFF on Midnight Rambler. Most insane vocal since Brussels Affair.

Chi Town and KY will absolutely be riots. I wish I was going too.

FANTASTIC POST!!!!!!!

Really when you think of it, and look back at their earlier tours they virtually played the same set list every night! '69, '72, '73, '75/76, '78, and '81 all had virtually the same set list every night. Every once in a while they would put in something different, or add a song for the European leg.

Great POST! Great attitude!

I saw 4 US shows and was vey happy with the set lists , but I do hope that there is a little more diversity when they return

THERE IS SUCH A LARGE CATALOGUE TO CHOOSE FROM .

I agree. I've seen ten US BB shows, and loved them all. It has cost me about 80 a show on average scalping, and i've been at the base of the b stage 5 of them. They have delivered some real gems(Out of control) at the beginning of the tour as tears go bye, so many great moments,....rocks off, dead flowers, memory motel....a great tour and I cant wait for giants stadium and atlantic city

$80 average scalping and the base of the B stage to boot. Too sweet. You must be an expert on the rare, somewhat lost art, I mean, with what you can do on the Internet now.
Based on past set lists I've seen, I'm sure the $120 I've got into Louisville will be well worth the price. Hell, I'm just happy to be goin'
Can't wait.

(A) You got lucky with a couple of songs & (cool smiley The rest of the songs are the same songs they always play. It's common knowledge that they rotate a few songs per show. That's not the problem. The problem is that, with a few exceptions on this tour, they are relying on songs that have already been done again and again on recent tours. Many people wish that they would work in new/different material for many reasons.35 songs in 4 shows is alright but,21 of those came in show 1 and it took three more shows and some good forture to get the other 14.For example I am hoping against hearing another Slipping Away \ Before They Make Me Run section. It has been done time and again.I would rather hear How Can I Stop \ Connection or something along those lines.

You made my day! I'll buy you dinner when I go to the States this autumn. You're so to the point, but I'm afraid that when the set-list whiners get out of their beds, they're gonna hit hard. But never mind! THANK YOU! And have a nice day.

As I said before (and thanks for your so cute response), you are a joyless misery.
Why anally, analyze the setlists to the n'th degree?
We are hearing some good music at the moment.
The band survives, and is out there kicking it, we should enjoy it while we still can.
Joyless misery.....
God help me if I ever have to sit next to you and your critical facility at a show.

Oily.

The problem is that they alternate between the gems and more obscure tracks. They should alternate more between the warhorses.

My guess is that the whiners would rather the Stones quit touring and vanish from the Earth if they just insist on playing Satisfaction and Brown Sugar. What a coplete load of crap.Just go see the shows and enjoy or stay home, miss out,and shut up.

35 BS comments about "whiners" in 4 threads! simply amazing!

Setlist-wise, you've done very well, especially with rare ABB tour-gems like Gimme Shelter, Love is Strong, Out Of Control, Dead Flowers and Sway. Ánd Back Of My Hand... But prepare for the surprise of 2006: the live performance of Streets Of Love.

Myself, I had a great show in Paris, with She's So Cold, Paint It Black, Midnight Rambler and This Place Is Empty; Amsterdam surprised me with Bitch, Sway, Slipping Away and Get Off Of My Cloud. That makes 24 songs, on two GREAT shows (which still is the most important).

And now we have to wait for just one year, in fact only a few months, before the circus starts again...

I'm a happy man...

though i am not a setlist complainer (i liked the show i saw, i love to hear bs, jjf, ycagwyw...etc) i must say that you can look at this the other way around: in 81 for example they played 5/6 songs from the new album every night, not to speak of 78 or 69. The attitude of the band is different and, given ABB is a good album with a lot of would be good "live" songs, i can't understand why they dont play more of it (see what happened with the infamous - and rightly so imho - SOL). Give the "whiners" a tour with the same setlist but with 6 songs form ABB every night and i believe they'll vanish. Or at least only the real pains in the ass would keep complaining.

Given they wont do this, I agree with who said they should alternate the warhorses more.

I've heard 35 different songs out of 158. That's 3 different songs per concert. But I'm not intrested in numbers. The stones are.

Believe it or not, it's possible to enjoy the millionth version of Miss You while at the same time thinking "that was great, but it would be even better if they played something different, something that doesn't get played so often."

It's not an all or nothing proposition. Some people act like our only choices are to either accept whatever the Stones play unconditionally and have a great time, or wish they would play something else and be a miserable person who can't enjoy the Stones. Not true, I can enjoy them for what they are while still wishing they were more adventerous and played more from their excellent new album.

Agree. But your first category of fans thinks that when you think (and say it) like you do (be happy but...) you are automaticly the miserable person who can't enjoy the stones.

Of the 4 shows and 35 songs only 8 tunes were played at each show. Thats right, 8.

methinks your math is wrong Thief.
I do agree with How can I stop and Connection, they would be better than SA and BTMMR... however no matter how you look at it there are 2 different songs right there. HECK THATS 10% of the SET!

this tour has had its ups and downs, but face it... the set list aint a problem.

SURE I WOULD LOVE to hear some rare stuff like Fingerprint File, Hang Fire or She Was Hot but Night Time, Shes So Cold and Sway have all been pretty damn cool.

BOTTOM LINE
The set lists are fine and I would rather see and hear the Stones play Honky Tonk Woman for the 1,000,000th time than be anywhere else listening to any other band.

Consider yourself very lucky. I went to 4 shows and got 24 different songs, didn't realize it until I just counted. To me its not really a matter of how many different songs you get, they could come up with one great set list and use it throughout the whole tour like in 1981. But this tour they seem to play the same choices as your typical stadium show the past 10 years and they barely play their new material.

I think some are missing the point because there is obviously a reason so many are dissappointed with the sets this tour. This was never the case in the past where they made each tour fresh with a good mix of songs that were not over played in years past. I would have loved to have seen Sway, As Tears Go By, Cloud, and so many others but didn't get to in the four shows I saw.

It helped that you saw your four shows in the tour's first few months. They were pretty adventerous then as compared to now - since Baltimore, songs like Out of Control, Back Of My Hand, Mr. Pitiful, Love Is Strong, Shattered, All Down The Line and Dead Flowers have either disappered from the setlist or have only been played a few times at most.

They rehearsed so many different songs and started out playing a pretty good variety, but they seem to have fallen into a rut as time has gone on.

You don't know me.What's your obsession? The thread is about the set lists,it's not about me.
It's a cold hard fact that the Stones have played very few songs on this tour that were not played on recent tours before this.People are entitled to like this fact all they want but,I don't and I'm not alone.

My math is wrong,is it?Read again.I actually never commented on the number of songs that were played at each of the four shows you attended on this tour.Like I said,if you heard a total of 35 different songs and Columbus '05 was your first show of the four, that accounts for 21 of the 35 different songs that you heard. How many songs were played at three of the four shows? They skipped IORR at one of your shows - great but, that is out of the ordinary.I can name ten songs off the top of my head right now that have been played at 95% (or higher) of the shows on this tour : Start Me Up \ Tumbling Dice \ Miss You \ Honkey Tonk Women \ Sympathy For The Devil \ IORR \ Jumping Jack Flash \ YCAGWYW \ Satisfaction \ plus Brown Sugar. That doesn't even include You Got Me Rocking which now has finally at long last been given a break, even though it wasn't replaced by any other song from its same era. That doesn't include the new songs either which almost always include Rough Justice and ONNYA.

Columbus and Baltimore were two of the best set lists on this tour. Those shows had songs that are not typical of and/or are rare for this tour. That's why I consider you to be a little bit fortunate.

Slipping Away and Before They Make Me Run are different songs? From what? For you they might be but, again, they have been played repeatedly.

I'm glad you are having fun and don't have a problem with the set lists but,for many people who didn't decide not to show up for previous tours, the set lists are a problem.

At the end of the day, how I view it is - it's The Rolling Stones.

I could care less if they played rare songs. Would I love it? You bet I would, but it's not going to change my perception of the concert, of the music, of the intense love that I have for them and how they've changed my life.

They could charge me $450 just to see mick blow into a pitchpipe on stage and then leave, and it would be worth it.

I've said this before, so I'll be brief, but when you see a Stones show, you're writing yourself into history.

What I whine about is the number of songs they play - because you never want it to end!

That's my take, and I'm taking that perception to the grave.

I will be seeing them for the second time on October 11th, and even if they play an identical setlist from the last time I saw them, it will still be magical. My heart will still pound as much, my palms will still get as sweaty, and I will go as nuts, if not more nuts than the last time. Mainly because I'm an addict.

Stones never say die!

I was spoiled by seeing The Grateful Dead live many many times. I took a 5 show run from 1983, just because those dates are similar to today's date. THIS is what the Rolling Stones should be doing.
Notice the different songs, with just a few repeats, plus you have to love Satisfaction as the 2nd encore on the 31st. : )

I used to go see the Dead alot as well and have often thought about how cool it would be to see the Stones tour like this.

but its not really possible for a band like the Stones.
there are always younger folks who discover the band (I am not that old, but at 38 I am not that young... however I am young enuff to not have discovered the stones until the mid 80s)
IE - my 23 year old niece and 26 year old girlfriend both new to the club... how disappointed they would be to save and look forward to a show and not hear HTW, YCAGWYW or Satisfaction... i mean they are some of the most recognized songs ever written.

I always love more rare stuff, but this tour is fine as far as variety goes (IMO)

with the Dead, half the fun was doing like 5 or 6 shows in a row, jamming to a GREAT band, doing cheap drugs and banging stoned hippie girls smiling smiley
great fun, but the Dead only have like 3 songs anyone who is not into the band would know.

not the case with the Stones
