The find of the decade - Steel Wheels outtakes
Posted by: Gazza ()
Date: August 15, 2006 22:05

For those of you who may not be aware of it, yet - just uploaded on to the Rocks Off Bit Torrent tracker last night is a previously uncirculated collection of 15 Steel Wheels Monitor Mixes in fabulous quality

Sad, Sad, Sad
Hearts For Sale
Almost Hear You Sigh (keith on vocals)
Call Girl Blues (aka Break the spell)
Continental Drift
cant Be Seen
Fancyman Blues
Blinded By Love
Hold On To Your Hat
Between A Rock (And A Hard Place)
- labeled as 'Steel Wheels'
Mixed Emotions
Slipping Away
Ready Yourself (No L/Voc)
Terrifying
For Your Precious Love

These arent merely remixes of the released versions, but actual alternate takes, many of which are close to being final takes.

This is incredible stuff and IMO the best find in terms of outtakes since the Voodoo Lounge sessions that came out a decade ago. On first listen, I'd go as far to say it's even better. To be honest, I prefer the production and mix to the released album, even if a few of the vocals arent quite finished.

and wait til you hear the Stones long-lost cover of Jerry Butler's classic "For Your Precious Love". One of the most sssoulful recordings of their entire career and a serious contender for greatest outtake ever. Sensational stuff.

The torrent is listed under "RS Monitor Mixes". When youve downloaded it, please remember to keep seeding to help others finish their download too.

A huge thanks to bwaudby for sharing this recording with us

its terrific. Honestly. I'm blown away by how great it is. What I'm gonna do is 'tree' it on RO when I get back from the UK shows, so those without broadband or access to Bit Torrent can get it.

You'll hear this album in a new light after checking this out. great versions, and a more raw-edged sound than the relatively sterile production on the released album.

I wasn't aware of this, I'm amazed!
I better learn to download (and upload) then...I've been avoiding that untill now.
Thanks for the info!

Get yerself a download manager.
I recommend Azareus.
But if you want something lighter, take BitLord.
Just google'em & ya get them easily.
Then:

Go to [rollingstones.kicks-ass.org]
Save RS Monitor Mixes at your harddrive.
Right-click on it - download - voila!

Piece of cake, I promise ya!
(Alas I havent had the time to get' em but I sure will)

O, yeah, once ya have downloaded the Download Manager,
ya just right-click on the file "RS Monitor Mixes",
and choose "Download with... (e.g.) Azareus".

Seeding aint what ya do when ya make my family more numerous,
at least not here = it is just leaving the torrent open so that
others can gain while they try to torrent the same file.

Wow, that was great, thanks for uploading it. Very smooth vocal from Jagger, and the musical vibe reminded me a bit of Time Waits For No One.

Kent... Gamle dreng. Take it easy.
Just cool it, mon.
Sometimes it takes a little while for dem torrentin'
to start demselves up.
Give it some time.
Take a cold Danish beer; leave the computer,
leave the BitLord on... All of a sudden ya might have it started.

Me, I have a temporarily slow connection, because of a moved
computer/modem & sofar no wires in-between the main gate
for telephoning. But I have started it.
