Question about Prestwick - Glasgow show
Posted by: CindyC ()
Date: August 15, 2006 18:18

Can any of you guys help me out here.

If I arrived at Prestwick on Friday night at 19:50, would I have enough time (assuming the flight is not delayed) to get my rental car and make it to the show? I figure I'll have to miss the first band, but I'll be seeing them at Twick #2 anyway.

Any thoughts? I'm flying from Germany, and I'd prefer not to have to fly out on Thursday if I can help it.

Thanks!

absolutely NO chance mate!

for starters, you'd have to collect your luggage. thats at least 30 mins even if you land on time. find your hire car, find the venue and somewhere to park (again, not easy)

you'd be lucky to get inside Hampden before the end of the gig

Bummer.

I forgot about the luggage, I was going to just do a carry-on, but can't do that anymore. Travel sure isn't what it used to be.

Thanks Andy!

One more thing, Prestwick Airport is very far from downtown Glasgow (and the stadium is close to the downtown).
50 kms / 30 miles...

Even without the luggage, you still have to get through customs/passport control etc. That sucks, it would be a shame to miss the glasgow show. I'm gonna be there, 13 rows from the stage! YEAAAHH!

Cant you get an earlier flight?

Cindy - I would expect the Stones to be onstage NO LATER than 8.30 pm that night.

Even if you were carrying nothing more than a toothbrush and were jet propelled from the airport to Hampden in a rocket, you wouldnt be there for the start of the show

if you can fly to Glasgow airport, do it - its about 15 minutes by bus from the city centre and the service is cheap and very regular (every ten minutes or so). But be there early Friday so you can buy me several drinks

Ok Gazza, you're on! I'll take the Thursday flight probably.

In the US, they weren't going on till 9:30ish, so I was thinking I might make it, even if I missed a song or two.

Mr. Jimmy, I think I'm 10th row. I'll wave to ya! I'll be the one with the big smile on my face!

I think Gazza have roughly 786 drinks and beers waiting for him next week.

Definately take the Thursday flight. Have you tried every airline that goes from you into Glasgow?

Yeah, I've tried:

Ryan Air
Easyjet
germanwings
berlin air
all the majors

I've even tried flying into Dublin and going from there, or flying into Stansted.

I've found some flights, but they are more than I am willing to pay. This trip is starting to add up. The Glasgow trip was a last minute detour.

CindyC How much can you afford to spend.

Yeah, I looked into Edinburgh too, as well as Newcastle, Leeds, Shannon, Dublin, and a few others.

I'll be in Stuttgart, so I tried Stuttgart, Karlsruhe-Baden, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt-Hahn and a few others. It's not a big deal, it's just that I'll have less time to hang out with my friend. I hardly ever get to see her.

hi madmaxx,

yeah, that's way too much! I was only looking to spend about 60 US. It's ok, the Thursday one is pretty cheap (about 45 euros). I will probably need a nights rest by then anyway.

Thank you so much for looking for me though, very very sweet of you!

Curfews as the shows are outdoors and in residential areas. The Twickenham RFU site says the Stones are expected onstage at 8.15. They'll probably be nearer to 8.30 in all cases as the curfews are usually for 10.30

if you can get one for 45 Euro, take it. Thats quite a bargain and you should be able to get a reasonably priced hotel somewhere. Glasgow is nowhere near as expensive a city as London.
