stones pop songs (aghh)

(excuse my english)
I hate the stones playing live some songs from the "pop" or "psychedelic" years(1966-67):

Ruby tuesday, 2000 light..., Paint it black, She's a rainbow, As tears go by

They forgot it in seventys, even Satisfaction hardly was played live in golden years. They didn't need to play this songs, in my opinion. Some are like children songs. That is not the autentic Stones' essence.

When someone told me that in Milan played "Con le mie lacrime", I think it was a joke.

I didnt wan to say exactly POP, I'm talkin about clumsy and stupid songs like Lady Jane and others writted to compete with Beatles, for example. Do you like it?

Hmmm....Roadrunner....think I kinda know where your coming from and I agree 50/50 with you.

I hate Ruby Tuesday, She's A Rainbow, Lady Jane.....these songs just do nothing for me but Paint it Black? Well thats a whole other matter! PIB has to be in my top 5 favourite Stones songs. Perenially underrated, this song should be considered a Warhorse in the same vein as JJF, Brown Sugar, Saisfaction, Start Me Up etc...

I agree with you on the Stones dabbling with pyschedelia, as I really don't dig their short-lived proclivity for this genre in the mid 60's but when it comes to the so-called 'pop' songs of the 60's (if thats what one can define them as) such as Satisfaction, Under My Thumb, Paint It Black, LSTNT, Get Off My Cloud....then I think this material really does stand up to much of the Stones catalogue.

I partially agree with your inference regarding competition with the Beatles. As has been stated many times before I believe that 'Satanic Majesties Request' was a response to Sgt.Pepper, but I really do not believe that for the rest of the 60's the Stones were consciously trying to compete with the Beatles, rather they were 'doing their own thing'.

I saw it in 1998. It was a bit of a low point along with SFTD at that one. But it was fun to hear...

Some young stones fan think this is pop
but there is no pop song in the 60's from the stones. It was beat music.
Read some books about the stones in the 60's. It was a big rebellion.

It is strong words you use, when you call this song for a pop or psychodellica.
Paint it black couldn`t be written ( my opinion) by other than Stones. It`s really an original song and one of the best Stones ever have written.

(excuse my english)
Paint it black is not a bad song, LSTNT, UMT, GOOMC... are good, and I love the 80% of the stones songs of that years, (and 50% of beatles and others)
I wanna say that the best of the stones began in 1968, when they left psycodelia, pop, stranges influences... (name it as you want) and re-discovered his very essence: the power of live performances and the roots of his music.
that's all, maybe I am a rock purist... but not an ignorant

This is a very cliched view, that the "real stones" begins with "Jumpin' Jack Flash." ROADRUNNER, you have read too much music journalism.

right, sure - you know the "Stones' essence" better than they do.
thank all that is praiseworthy that the Stones' musical horizons have never been as limited as some of their fans' ...

anyway talking about "pop" without defining what we mean by it never gets us very far, does it.
i know some people use the word to mean something like "lightweight derivative commercial crap";
to others it means simply "whatever's popular at a given time";
the term also refers to a genre of music that can be characterized by a rich variety of influences and considerable musical sophistication.

the Rolling Stones have produced some of the most brilliant pieces of pop music ever made,
and that work is a major part of how they've changed the world, for good.
if you don't dig it, that's a serious impairment and i'm sorry for you.

but people can overcome their impairments - a worthwhile essay that might help:

I love all these songs! But then again, the 60´s is my favourite Stones era. Ruby Tuesday is on my top 10 list. Lady Jane is lovely! She´s a rainbow is very good until someone starts ruining it with some poorly played fiddle or whatever. As tears go by is sweet and I am glad I got to hear it in Amsterdam.

I agree. I'm glad the Stones stopped playing that sissy poppy 60's crap and started playing REAL rock in the 70's like Emotional Rescue, Fool To Cry, Angie, and Miss You.
