I just got a call from someone with contacts at Ashton Gate (Bristol City Football club stadium) to tell me the Stones management are in discussion about playing there next year, 25 years since the last time.
Anybody heard anything about this to verify ?

seems a bit hard to believe, esepcially as its in a similar part of the country to Cardiff where theyre playing this month

Impression I got was that most of next year's Euro shows might be arenas. Bristol would suit me though thanks to the Easyjet flights!

OT. Who is best, rovers or City?

City play in a division higher than Rovers I believe..

Around what date would this likely happen?

Bring it on.

All i know is that the guy who rang me today is the same guy who told me about the Who gig there earlier this year, months before.
For what it's worth, my bet would be on something like Ashton Gate and the new Wembley Stadium next summer, plus wherever.
And, please, I'm only posting here what I've heard in an honest and friendly way to keep us all up to date with the latest news / rumours.
We had a great gig at the Amsterdam Bimhous with Tim Ries and Bernard Fowler, Michael Davies etc., photos, autographs and also the Paradiso and, for the first time ever for me, I caught a pick from Chuck as the B-stage was moving down beside us.

Thank you to all the tremendously friendly and great people we met that weekend.

2007.......I really hope what I've heard is true, but I assure you it is from a very reliable source. Here's hoping.

That makes sense to me. This is a stadium tour and it would be that also for 2007, if they do it. The big cities they loeft out - Barcelona, Brussels, Madrid, Gothenburg and so on can not be made up by arena shows. And they are working on making a world record in crowd number for this tour so if they do 2007 it would be stadiums. And they do often play "next dor places". Moncton and Halifax are both far far away but still only a couple of hours drive apart. But any other city is nowhere near. Vigo and Santiago de Compostela 1998 and 1999 was almost next door in Spain. Mannheim and Hockenheim... They do it all the time. As long as the price is right and there is a crowd they do it.

How is the live music scene in Bristol? are there some good live venues (also small clubs), Is there an active rock n roll scene, or website with some information?

Ashton Gate only seats 15,000 these days for football since it went all-seated, which is about half the size of the crowd who saw the Stones show there in 1982. However, according to [en.wikipedia.org] , it will be able to hold 21,000 when the current building work on the new stand is completed.

What's interesting about a place that size is that while its quite small by comparison to the stadiums the Stones usually play in, its also more than the capacity of most European indoor arenas and comparable in capacity to most arena-sized venues in the US. At the minute, there is quite a gulf between the capacity of European arenas and the stadiums they choose to play, which makes it hard for them to sell out stadiums. As their guarantee seems to be so important to them, playing smaller stadiums may be something of a compromise for the future.

to be fair Gazza. 15,000 is for a football game when people are seated. not for a gig when i presume (but you never know with the Stones) they'll be standing on the pitch

I also went in '82. Offered somebody the same money for his spare ticket as someone else- I threw in my can of Party 7 as well and that swung it my way! Seem to remember that Mick wore the red Bristol City shirt and someone walking on, and possibly falling off, the roof of the Stand behind one goal.

Capacity for a concert is usually less than the stadium capacity as one side of the stadium is closed off for the stage. Plus, if this year's UK tour is any indication, the pitch will probably be all seated - reducing the capacity even further.

I also went to this concert and remembered somebody walking/dancing on the roof and it was when the stones did 'miss you' i cant recall him falling off thou.

I saw The Who here this year and the size/acoustics are very good
