Yeah, that's true, but before I found the ABB I was on a mission to find the best example of techniquie and emotion I could find. When I found the ABB I was under the impression I found it, but the guys they've had in since (Dickey, Warren, Jack, Derek and even Jimmy Herring) are pretty good as well.

A great instrumentalist for sure but he plays mandolin. As to this list, I think I will print it out and use it for toilet paper. Kurt Cobain at no 12 and ahead of Richard Thompson, Mick Taylor, Pete Townshend, Peter Green and a host of others? Puh-leeeze! No Django at all? Bollocks! This alone makes the list suitable to line the bottom of a parrot's cage and not much else!

David Grissom is someone different than David Grusin(sp?), the mandolin player. Go to www.davidgrissom.com for a quick sample. And if you ever catch him live where he has a leading role, you'll love it!

The mandolin player spells his name, Grissom, the same way, hence my, and I suspect others, confusion. And while we are at, why an I not on this list?

The whole thing is ludicrious! Another thing i don't know why Hendrix is always a automatic first. Yes he was great but what for 4 years we had him. What about the guys that have contributed for 40 plus years like page is in his catagory and the compositions page has written and perform are well beyond hendrix and he did not kill himself he's still with us. It's always going to be a joke list. We would all be better off and sitting around with our friends drinking some beverages making up the list.

All you need to know about this list is that Cobain is #12 and
Eddie Van Halen is #70. That is either someone's idea of a joke or
the individuals responsible for this list are tone deaf, musically
retarded or both.

I don't think that Hendrix should be critisized for being around a short time period. From what I have heard till this moment beacuse I don't know all the guitar players,he was the greatest.

I agree. I think curt cobain was talented because he tapped into something and wrote some good songs, but hes gituar playing ability wasnt that great. why dont they just put Bob Dylan on the list then.

There's not much more to add. That's who do like best list, primarilly.

The least little objectivity would see that, for example, while Kurt Cobain was a very talented song-maker, his technical proficiency could not rival so many ranked below him;e.g., Frank Zappa.

And how many of these voters sre familliar with Jazz guitarists?
Not many apparently?

Only guitar players, perhaps, should be allowed to vote?

Ever had a guitar in your hands?

Dont believe it.

Do you know men like Al Di Meola, Paco Lucia et.al.....?

These can play a guitar.

Keef is a part of the RS, but,- he isnt a great guitarplayer.....

So what defines a great guitar player anyway? Just some keywords they could be judged by, and definitely not all of them are criteria I would use.

innovative
recognizable
imitated
technique
can play everything
sound
...

A great guitarist, just like any other great artist is defined by: 1) the presence of passion & 2) the ability to communicate that passion to others.

It also helps if you have soul and a voice/style of your very own.

This list is from Rolling Stone magazine from 2003....

"It's Good To Be Here, It's Good To Be Anywhere"-Keith Richards

"Halloween Is Every Night Of My Life"-Keith Richards

"I Got The Sticky Fingers, For Some Girls"

12 and 17, cobain and jack white, have me laughing so hard it's not funny. that this list is 3 years old is annoying. the omissions and lower 50 who belong in the top 30 is simply tragic.
