My favorite all time Stones song... studio... studio outtake... or live

Interesting story about how I became a huge fan. My high school english teacher was a huge music buff. It was the first class of the school day, and he always brought in a boombox with an awesome album to open the class whether it related to the book we were reading or not. We were reading A Streetcar Named Desire and a line in the book:

Stanley: ...Hey whaddya say Blanche, you wanna bury the hatchet and make a loving-cup?

so to open the class, he naturally played LC. It was my first real introduction to Exile, and I was hooked for life.

I can understand your reaction. The fault may well rest with me, not the song. I can accept that it is one of the great songs in the Stones canon. I'm not one of those who will say "Loving Cup stinks" just because I don't care for it.

But it's never been one that pushed my buttons, odd though that may seem to many. I wish I could appreciate it more, but it just doesn't move me very much.

And I always hated "Live With Me" from LIB. That one I can't tolerate live, either.

H&D - that's cool. Not a criticism of you implied. Hey - it seems everyone is suddenly jumpin on the bandwagon for SOL, which I still think is the single worst song in Stones history - and by a fair margin.

LC is one of my favorites, but how I can remember myself Mick said in 2003 that the song don't work on stage and that's the reason why they don't do it very often. Well, that's just Mick's opinion.

Keep on rollin'

"...Ohhhhh, what a beautiful buzzzz..."

Can't get much better than that section of the song

HELP!!! I MUST get a live boot of Loving Cup!! My life just won't be complete without it!!! I've got plenty of boots to trade if anyone is interested.
I dig the video (filmed in Keith's house in France) of The Boys singing Loving Cup. There's a bottle of JD in the background and Mick just sings with the cutest smile on his face!!!

It's not in France, it in Montreux. They were rehearsing for the upcoming 1972 tour. It's also not live but a backing track with live vocals......

one of the greatest unappreciated gems of all time...I have not heard a live version that touches the Exile one...mainly because the original build and BUILDS to such an incredible groove at the end with Chawlie, the horns and THE RIFF...and Jaggers off the cuff frenzied rap/rant at the end...the greatest!
