Just thought you should know. And if Jann Wenner says so, it's so.

Yes, if Wenner says that is true, just like his 5 star review of GITD.

My First show was in 1975, and even back then the press was saying that this may be their last tour,They would even play Last time in the Promo! The Stones joke about it all the time.
I don't ever listen to the press. I just wait for the next tour!

Enjoy them while we have them!!!

God Bless the ROLLING STONES!

So..whats the story!!!This is just a sick joke..again I ask in what context???You made the post ..so can you answer?...Yes I remember Jan Wenner...In 78 he savaged...and atacked our gang...about being to old doing to many new songs!!!!Jagger was real angry cause the Stones..are the roots of RS magazine..I loved..and still love to read R&S...And everything...is sorted out between Jagger and Wenner...He interviewed him..and he really is a Stones fan...in 78 he betrayed The Stones in the back...But hell..that was long ago..everybody makes mistakes...I have a deep respect for R&S magazine...like t read the old ones!!!But this is just stupid..you say something and than you dont tell the story...Why is that?

He said last as in latest. They'll rock till they drop. Besides, I still have money in my bank account! I won't know what to do with it!

...YO, Kids, cool the jets.... Jann Wenner and Jagger are really good friends. Maybe they spent some time together and Mick was bitching about something. I get Rolling Stone and didn't see this but....Wenner loves Mick so he's NEVER gonna bag on the Stones....NEVER...he'll give DIRTY WORK a 5 out of 5 (that's how much he likes the Stones)

I find it hard to believe that ANYONE would not realise with 'A Bigger Bang' (U. S.) album sales, not one sold-out show in Europe and from the reports here about horrible U. S. ticket sales so far (Giants Stadium 1/3 full?) that this IS the last tour. It's OK...it had to happen. Just WAIT to see the press coverage on ticket sales! It'll be like that Holland headline. I'm just sorry they're limping to the finish line but they will still finish with the most successful U. S. and world tours because of ticket prices, I guess. I'm a Stones FANATIC and I'm not sure I want to see them one more time, so I can understnad the reluctance of others this time around. I wish they had done a few smaller arena shows like No Security with some different set-lists but they have a lot of people and a lot of bills to pay.

ROLLING STONE said "last tour"...not "latest tour" or "current tour" or "most recent tour." LAST tour. I may be misinterpreting it but I think I'm right and I think it's time. Can you imagine album and ticket sales 3 years from now??????

Any chance you can tell people the cover date of the issue in question or link to the online article from rollingstone.com? Don't mean to doubt you, but you keep saying Jann Wenner made the statement without providing any backup. At this stage its a bit like Charlie retiring or Charlie and Shirley seperating or Keith undergoing major surgery in the Cleveland Clinic, etc.

...well, Denmark is sold out, Norway is sold out, the cancelled show in Gothenburg was sold out(so obviously they did not just chop the shows that (maybe) sold poorly) but I'm tired of hearing the old clichés - especially it they are not true. Because the last time I looked Denmark, Norway and Sweden were still part of Europe.

Not very many people sell albums in the US anymore - or anywhere for that matter. I think the Stones is about 1.000.000 at present - not too bad for a ROCK record. The Stones have sold about 40.000 copies of ABB in Denmark - the last I heard. That ain't too bad when you figure the casual record buyer have - what? - about 50 titles to chose from when s/he enters a record shop (Stones alone).

...ahh..but why do I bother. The Stones will continue as long as THEY see fit - not because of some board or another *lol*

Jack Knife, maybe this is really the last tour due their age or health. Not due the "reasons" you mention. Once again i tell you: analyze more carefully the things...

(A) You say "they will still finish with the most successful U. S. and world tours because of ticket prices, I guess." Only because of this factor?? Do you think that a total audience's number of 4.5 million people, despite the 500,000 "sold but lost" tickets in Europe due the cancelations, will be disappointing? With these ticket prices and after so many world tours in the last years? Obviously, if an act can attract so many people with this prices, with a cheaper for 25% -30% tickets (just an idea...) could easily attract millions again.

(cool smiley Why do you think the ticket sales for Giant Stadium might be fast? Just a year ago they played in New York to most people than any other act. Were fast the sales for the first northamerican round of ABB tour? Of course not, everyone remember the same discussion ("poor sales", etc) a year ago. Did they played in packed venues in the most of the cases? Yes.

(C) ABB sold worldwide better than a lot of Stones albums in 70s and 80s. And if the US sales is reason to quit, then should quit the 80% of the rock bands. Look at the whole sales...

Rolling Stone hasn't been a relevant music publication for twenty-five years. It's good for training puppies and that's about it.

It's the last tour til the next one.
The Stones are going to stop this tour in December, after 2 years on the road, then they'll take a 2-year break and come back.
What else are they going to do anyway?
Sit back and relax? Garden? Paint the kitchen?

Jan Wenner also said that Jagger's last solo release was one of the best things to be put on magnetic tape or played through speakers.

The "last tour" statement is in a list of top US Tour grosses and I read it as "the most recent" Stones tour. Madonna btw has taken over number 1 for the year and actually has a higher dollar-per-ticket average.

Very nice Syd Barrett obit in the issue btw.
