How is the 2006 version under my thumb, compared to the 97 and 81/82 versions

so fabulous that the Stones decided they've done it now to perfection and permanently dropped it from the set....

Probably not as good at the 69 version.

but does it sound more like the 82 or the 97 version?

My guess is that Chuck is still playing the riff with the keyboard (vibe sound) like in 1997.

I haven't heard a version that I like better than the '69 version. I'm with Lizard too. If they are going to play it then bring back the guitar riff!

Here's the version from Milan. Personally I think it rocks. Beginning threw me for a loop, in a good way. I'm suprised everyone's so critical of it. This is the version I always hoped they'd play, except with a little louder guitars.

Thank you very much, drake. Sounds good! Turn off Chuck's friggin' keyboard and give him some marimba's or let Ronnie play it during the vocals like in '81. But you're right.. it's good!! FASTER!! Finally. '97 was, with all due respect, just boring. Keith's solo here is nice too. If I get this at Amsterdam Monday, I'm gonna go WILD!!

The 2006 version isn't as energetic/frenetic as 1966-67 (e.g. Paris), but it's strong on the drums and rhythm guitar, and seems better than '69 versions, more or less even with '81. And the guitar solo's good. Note the very enthusiastic audience reaction to both the solo and the first chorus.

Why wouldn't they keep doing this song in Europe? One possible explanation: they're going to selectively roll out songs like this throughout the European tour, as rehearsal for incorporation into the regular setlist this Fall in the Americas.

... You know, América - the New World - where people actually show up to see the Rolling Stones.

That is friggin' great. I'm so surprised, people said it was a mess after Milan. I will be thrilled if this is played in England.
