My Munich Review!

What should I Say? Simply amazing!! This concert was without the doubt the best of my seven Stones concerts I've seen so far.
The band played tight, the crowd was just awesome and the weather was perfect for a Stones concert!
The stadium was up on their feet for almost the entire show apart from the slower numbers. But from Miss You on the stadium was cooking even beyond the final chords. It was hard to make out anybody who was not on their feet. They were shouting "Zugabe!" (encore!) even minutes afters the fireworks went off.
You could see how much the band were enjoying themselves. Keith looked and played great and he seemed to really conentrate on his set. Mick pulled that little extra energy like he always does when the crowd is so appreciative. Ronnie was great and Charlie of course, too.
The stadium wasn't a sellout. There were some block at the very back which were only something like 40% sold, but the field was EXTREMELY packed which is why I guess 60.000 were there at least. Actually I haven't ever seen a stadium field packed to this extent. It was like a miracle that so many people came to see the Stones as there were no advertisements at all in the streets of Munich. I guess I will never understand the Stones management for being so carelessly passive when it comes to promotion.
However those empty seats didn't reduce the excitement. Even the people in those poorly filled blocks were on their feet for most of the show.
If there is one city in Germany to see the Stones then it is Munich! I hope people trying to watch the concert from the hills outside the stadium bit their asses for being so stingy and missing to see this fabulous Stones show from within the stadium.

I was also pleasently surprised about how many young people attended the show. I had the impression there were more younger people than old veteran fans. A fantastic mix! Especially seeing families with all their children coming to the Stones was great to see.

The sound quality was changing throught the whole show from OK to perfect, but it was never bad (I had seats at the right side of the stage). You could always hear brilliantly what Mick was singing. Sometimes the guitars were a bit buried in the mix for example during All Down The Line, Satisfaction, Rough Justice. I don't mean "Licks-buried" ;-) , but not very high in the mix. However 2 levels better than the Licks sound. The volume was also raised although it could have been a little bit louder.

Highlights were Let's Spend The Night Together, Night Time, Start Me Up, Miss You (!), Sympathy, Paint It Black and Brown Sugar. Well, actually the whole show was a highlight, but those songs stood out the most.

Everybody seemed to be amazed by the show. At least I couldn't hear a single negative word. This is how it should be! :-)
Go ahead Stones!!

I was there too, and I completely agree. I posted my review to BV, so maybe it will appear in reviews page. Maybe you shold post yours too, it is well written.

And one word to Keith - he is still the riff master. That man really rocks on guitar, surely sometimes threws a note where not expected but that’s been a part of the Rolling Stones style since they started. It’s a live rock music, not a studio band. And he played really with passion and energy, never forgetting to make enough riffs and licks when he was feeling they will help the songs going. I have read some negative opinions here on IORR form about his recent performances – as for what I have seen in Munich, he played very well and consistently with his style that all the Rolling Stones fans love for years.

Keep on rolling!!!!!

I already sent my review to BV ;-) I hope he adds it.

Btw, most negative reviews are from fans who have seen the Stones numerous times and are much more critical. For the (casual) fan however the Munich concert was a fantastic experience for sure. Whereever I looked I saw smiling faces and dancing people. Everybody was singing along whenever possible. And you should have seen the faces when that little B-stage suddently moved out of the huge stage. lol
The munich audience rocked!! :-)

Yeah, it is true. And also it is true that the regular visitors usually are more critical, but that is normal .... it is simply because they are judging the many performances they have seen against each other. Sometimes however even on this site it gets personal to Keith or other member of the band and I think that it's too rude. We must not forget that we are judging more or less quality of a particular evening, but overall standard set by the Rolling Stones is very high. When we speak of Mick singing, Keith playing or Charlie's drumming, they are on top of their game, even if it can vary in particular evening.

Still, Munich rocked and I will hardly forget it. I think that you forgot between highlights Before Make Me Run. In my opinion, better version that on the CD, Keith sang with passion!

And your remark about that Micks extra energy, that is exact. I felt it too.

Yes true. Before They Make Me Run was indeed another hightlight. No bump notes and he was always at the micro on time ;-) He really put lots of passion in it.

my review:
it was a incredible day.we arrived at 3oclock and nobody knew that we won or anything about the contest.we were guided from every ticket box to the vip entrance .this took all in all 4 hours . thanks to rs.com. getting angry ,we met a very nice road or stage manager, who gave a call and five minutes later we had our tickets. she said , she felt sorry for the mess up.then we enetered finally the onstage lounge ,where we got an free cocktail.there also was a barroom, where i ordered some weißbier.than around 7:30 we got our introduction to onstage.takin no cams...,no alcohol up onstage....furthermore they mentioned teh whole show was recorded by zdf and will be broadcasted next months. then we were splitted in our groups. i had upper right.then we walked to the stage. we went to the tunnel and saw the whole stadium with all these crazy fans.incredible view.then we were guided backstage to the stairs. i saw all the technic.when we arrived our box the view was incredible. never expected to see anything like this.the view was imo very good. we saw everybody on stage.sure the lower level might have been greater , but hey i won my ticket so i don´t complain.our hostess gave us the whole concert free drinks (water, juice).when the show began i trembled with excitement. never seen anything like this before.hu great. then during sympathy the stage manager gave us all setlists. never expected this.when the show was over ,we had to wait for an moment, before we were guided back to the onstage lounge, where we got some presents: tourbook, tshirt and a kind of backstage pass.
afetr this i was so done, today i began to realize what a great experience yesterday was.
to the show:
the sound in my box was terrific, high volume, great mix.
sure the setlist is rather common, but i was and i am glad to see the stones yesterday. imo they were on heat.a lot of people in fos and innenraum had inflatable palms with them :-) great view.i took some pictures ( yes i succeded in getting in my camera(in my pants,we werent scanned)), but i had to take care that the bored security dont see me and my cam. unfortunately most of the pics taken with my cam are a little wiggly.but i have some really good ones on my mobile phone. soon as i get my cable back, i will post the picks here.

ok my next and last show this year will be stuttgard. cu there in fos
have a nice day cu soon

This was somewhat my 40th or more Show since 1976. The 2nd on this European leg of Bigger Bang Tour. However I enjoyed this show a lot. As already said above: it was tight and classic. The only disadvantage I might notice is that they began to early and the lightshow did not get accross the field.

Funny - on the pictures he is smoking.... haven't seen pictures recently, where he is smoking when playing..... except from his little show before his own song..

Yeah, a great show, despite a bit sloppy guitar work by Ronnie and Keith. A very interesting show actually; Mick was superb, Darryl and Charlie excellent - very, very tight but you could hear that Keith and Ronnie had been on sick leave lately.

All in all a good show, the band's playing was one of the tighest I have seen. I only wish they had replaced Ronnie before this tour.

It hurts but unfortunately; what is Ronnie's contribution nowadays? Looking good on tour programme?

If you can't hear what Ronnie contributes to the whole sound, I can't help you.

maybe you'd miss him imedeatly after a new guitarist took over.
who would that be anyway? M.T.? Jeff Beck?? speak up

and yes it hurts, when your hands drop off
