i think you actually agree with hurriganes

look crespo should have come out at the beginning of the second half.. he was doing nothing and would do nothing (as did his replacement cruz) because against germany argentina did not need a poacher in the box sitting there waiting for balls that obviously the gigantic german defenders would intercept.... crespo should have been replaced by messi..

as far as riquelme i agree that he should not have been replaced but everyone seems to forget that between the minute argentina scored and riquelme came out germany owned the game and riquelme washardly doing anything..they were just storming by him (germans)... i would have never taken out riquelme but pekerman should have introduced someone in the midfield to hold the ball

to me the changes were obvious

messi for crespo
aimar for lucho gonzalez (who had dissapeared)

of course then the goalie was injured when klose fell on him...but thats nother story

I just watched the interview on Canal Plus. Zidane contraddicted himself several times. Main contraddiction: he was sorry for the children who watched the game and saw this violent act. However, he clearly said that he didn't regret what he did. He even made understand that he would do it again... It's a real shame Zidane can't also use his head to think...

His point was the fact that the insults are kind of legal and don't lead to punishment and that's wrong according to him. That makes sense. True, that he put himself above the juries sometimes, but that's ok and show he actually DO use his head to think!

First, The Good, the Bad & the Ugly is an American film. True, it was filmed in Italy as part of Sergio Leone's "Man With No Name" trilogy, but it's stars (Eastwood, Wallach, & Van Cleef) are all Americans, its was shot in English, and it's subject matter involves the U.S. during the last throes of the Civil War. With regard to "things" versus "people", my list includes guitars, cars, movies, food, etc.

My point wasn't to insult the French (who would be speaking German if not for people like my grandfather, who left part of his goddamn leg over there during the war), but rather to emphasize the extent of American cultural influence throughout Europe. I mean, our favorite band (no, not Aphrodite's Child) is so heavily influenced by American music and culture that all members have made numerous contributions on works by their idols such as Chuck Berry, Hubert Sumlin, Johnny Johnson, etc. How many French musical acts can boast this? American culture admittedly has many flaws (not the least of which has been its imperialistic endeavors, as evidenced by the current administration's war mongering), but for a country that has only been in existence for 230 years, its influence is unparalleled in modern times.

Here's a Materazzi-Zidane-related story from the world of ice hockey:

Wayne Gretzky played many years and won many Stanley Cups with Esa Tikkanen in Edmonton Oilers. Tikkanen was famous for his incredible Tiki-talk, which made even the calmest guy go totally crazy.
Gretzky changed the team to Los Angeles and of course when playing against Edmonton Tiki had a mission to disturb Gretzky's game. He only skated in all games as close as possible to Gretzky and talked all the time language he even himself didn't understand. Tiki managed to ruin Gretzky's nerves totally and often got him penalties. Once while Gretzky was sitting 5 min for violence Tiki himself did 2 goals for Edmonton at this time... btw: Tiki is also the guy who really thought Gerald Ford was the owner of the Ford Motor co and while their team was invited to lunch with Gerald Ford, Tiki went and asked: "Mr President, I'm really interested to buy a Ford Mustang... could you help me in this?"

And once he had his time in the white house too. Bill Clinton was watching their game in the same box with Tiki's young daughters. They had so many questions for Bill that he decided to invite them to the White House with their parents. Tiki and Bill laughed loud in the library of the White House when these daughters asked if this was the place where Bill spend time with his girlfriend.

If Materazzi indeed said something about Zidane's sister than he got what he deserved, that doesn't mean that Zidane should have done what he did. He should have remained cool and kept on with the game, I mean it was the final, not just another game!! You can't risk it but he did and then he got what he deserved. I think Zidane should apologize for what he did, but for France and for football lovers not for Materazzi.

I also hope that Zidane don't be remembered for that incident but I think he will since it happened on a world cup final game and France could and should have won that game. But I think that even if that always stay with him he still will be remembered for his great skills playing football too!

To hurriganes and stoned in dc: You're right regarding Messi instead of Crespo, the shape they were in and so on. Right, Germany was attacking, a defender and a midfield man the logical change but the attacks were not really dangerous then.
The most important thing: I think something psychologically happened then. When the normally best players were taken out, the Argentinians thought we've won, we can give up any serious effort and energy. Just wait for the referee's whistle. The Germans seem to be too harmless to hurt us.
