He has been singing a few words about Italy winning the worldcup, which they have.

"Zizou's got a craaaazy mama and his sister's a honky tonk woman..."

And after that Mick said: "Keith and Materazzi seems to have something in common. They both have had recently some head related problems"...

fair enough, and its perfectly reasonable that the Stones acknowledged it, but the FINAL bow of any Stones show should consist of the 4 band members alone - and not with a couple of footballers shouting at the audience, trying to upstage them.

It was the Stones' night (especially keith's) - not Materazzi's.

Supposedly Charlie got offstage pretty quick as he wasnt too happy at the way they handled things at the end.

Yep Gazza, Charly was laughing but got off the stage the first one and really quickly.... he seem don´t like it at all!!

I agree with that. I wasn't there, but reading the reviews I get the feeling that Keith got his night hijacked by some football players who probably don't have a clue about the Stones...

Re: Mick , Stones and... Materazzi

Materazzi was singing "Siamo campioni del mondo" ("We are the champions of the world") and "Chi non salta un francese è" ("Who does not jump is a French") for the record just under the nose of Jean Todt who was at one of the balconies on stage.

I thought and hope that after the players have cleared the stage the four would come back and bow, but they did not. And I was disappointed as I see this as possibly mylast rs concert ever.

Anyway Keith's night has not been highjacked i can tell you. He was cheered so loud each time he made a move or hit a note.

That was the icing on the cake! Materazzi and Del Piero with Stones celebrating the World Cup victory and 65000 Italians at the end of a memorable show.
While Materazzi was offering a T-shirt to Mick, he invited him to say hello to the audience. So he sung "SIAMO I CAMPIONI DEL MONDO" (we are the world champions" and "CHI NON SALTA UN FRANCESE E'" (litterally "those who don't jump are french"). And I want to stress the fact that in this case he didn't insult anybody, despite what some biased people who cannot accept to lose and like to play the victims, might think. Of course 65000 people in the stadium were jumping. CAMPIONI DEL MONDO!

... just because they are not French.
LolA, I am sorry, but you seem to be a real poor sport.
It was the band that invited them on-stage, not the other way round.
Mick did invite the whole team but many players decided to stay with their families, after a month-long world Cup.
Its well known the passion for rock n' roll of Del Piero and Materazzi, Del Piero is a very close friend of Noel and Liam Gallagher as well.
Mick did even predict Italy winning so he was very much into that, and Ronnie too as he sported a light blue t-shirt all night and a white, red and green sweatshirt reading ITALIA for the last two numbers.
I agree they should have had them on-stage before the final bow, but it was Mick's decision.
Do you want to tell him too that he can't do whatever he feels like doing on HIS stage???
It was a very gentle gesture from the band and it made us all very happy, it was a funny and hexilarating moment of triumph.

This is a ridiculous comment really.
This night had been eagerly awaited by many anxious fans who've been deeply worried about Keith. Many predicted he would get the biggest cheers and ovations ever etc...Looking at these pics, it seems he was upstaged by the football fuss and yes it bothers me. I think not all Stones fans are foot fans, and they could have at least bothered to come back just the 4 of them afterwards.

I didn't like this end of the show... These two football players stole our last moments with the Stones and teased French people. Why? They are the World Footbal champions, but they AREN'T the representatives of Italy and they already won. What will the Stones do in Nice? Will they invite Zidane to defend France honour? I think it has been a little embarassing for Mick and Co., let's not mix music and International affairs... I took a nice pic of Charlie and Ronnie laughing behind Materazzi, but I don't know how to post it.. I just can give you the link to some pics I uploaded to our Italian fan group, and the one I meant is the N. 20.

If you don't get it it's your problem.
Mick's been very outspoken about this and looking at the reaction of the crowd it seems everybody appreciated this move, it was a special night indeed.
Stones opening in Milan, Italy World Champion, coincidences like this don't happen very often.
Mick's predicted correctly twice who was going to win the Cup in 40 years, and it's always been Italy.
What's wrong with that? He payed homage to our team and as an Italian I can't say I didn't appreciate.
As I wrote earlier, I thought he could have'em on stage earlier during the show, but that was Mick decision to have them at the end.

make no mistake
Mick invited your lout hero (I put Del Piero apart cos he's a gentleman) because he's happier that France lost than Italy won.
It's the typical usual english reaction.
it's totally ridiculous but that's it.

You are absolutely correct. Charlie did not really get into it, laughed heavily as a mockery ( " what 's this guy doing here and moreover singing " kind of )and directed to the exit. I suppose the other did not like it either. Too much is too much. But anyway, it's was not a great Stones night. They appear disbanded. The worst concert I ever attended. No collective action, just individuals playing their ego. I am sure the Vienna show will be grandiose. The real opening of this leg. I missed Barcelona.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
I like the Italian humour, it is really, how can I say, so subtle !
a joke expert ! you probably have thousands all tarred with the same brush.
they come from the famous Materazzi comical troup

Charlie had a azur blue T-shirt of course. He is a fan to, if he can. Red sox in Boston. Orange T-shirt in Charlotte. Italian colors in Milan. Of course he knows how to dress. And to be good looking in front of the local crowd.

: ) - confirms the rather low intellectual level and the lack of "sophisticated" vocabulary as Materazzi put it the other day - I remember hardcore Man City fans being extremely embarrassed by the support from those Gallagher-primitives

I shall be looking forward to an edited DVD-version : )

I think Mick made a terrible mistake inviting Materazzi to come up on stage. Nobody who insults another professional football player, insuulting Zidane's mother and sister repeatedly, desrves to be on stage speaking to the audience.
And I can state this objectively, because I am a Barcelona supporter, but I have admired Zidane's great playing when he won in Nou Camp in the champoions league some years ago, for ex<ample. No protagonism at all to these crap players !!!!! sorry, but I am being fully honest.....and (I know) it hurts

here we go again, like many others in stones boards, you have come full circle. "Materazzi The Monster" Zizou the little baby boy who couldn't take anymore and gave him what he deserved!

Dear French people and Zizou's fans: "You shouldn't take it so hard", you just lost a world cup as your hero lost his head. Lighten up!
