I don't know what the atmosphere is like in Italy. But in England you risk having your butt thrown into jail for quite a while for even talking about terrorist threats.

So that British tabloid that started the speculation of what Materazzi said should be thrown to jail?

I would like to ask my fellow Italian citizens on this board to refrain from stupid racist or derogative remarks.
We have won a World Cup, now please let's not turn into being stupid, arrogant, narrow-minded idiots.
I think all of this buzz about Zidane/Materazzi is their own busines.

and why would i have any racist insults to add ? i think he's a bald cheating bastard. does that make me a 'racist' now ?

he could be Spanish and i'd still think the same. what does the fact that he's French have to do with anything ?

don't try and make him a martyr. he's cost your country the world cup not mine. deal with that. if Rooney had done it for England i'd have wanted him banned from entering the country again

You're a bit quick here Stonesfan. I haven't seen any racist remarks/insults so far.

Well, well, I see a lot of arguments here today! Since I didn't attend the opening night gig yesterday, I'll jump here.

1.- It's impossible the FIFA gets the Championship back from Italy.

2.- Materazzi seems to have insulted Zizou. Well. We don't know what he said. Worst scenario would be a racist insult. You can punish him with five matches, then. Could it be Materazzi insulted Zizou's family. In this case, as I'm pretty sure french players insulted the family of the italian players too (for god's sake, it's a football match, players insult each other!), everything is OK.

3.- Zizou acted as an stupid. Fact. Despite what he was said, he acted like an arsehole! Wait until the end of the game if you want to punch Materazzi in the face, but don't be so stupid to leave your team without you in the Final Match of a World Championship!!, and even less if you are the star of your team. French people should be kicking Zizou in the arse for being so @#$%&'ing stupid!! Forget about Materazzi!

in fact I don't understand all this fuss about Zizou's reaction.

if you look more carefully, what do you see ?

with the replay, we see that Zizou takes off to clean up properly his forehead on mazeratti's jersey.

if you stop the VCR on the picture, it is perfectly clear, don't you think so ?

I think you mix some things up here! The FIFA is investigating this case and they told if it comes clear what Brasilien und English tounge readers have read so far they have to stay with with their anti-racissm statue and they will deny the titel to Italy.

You do? Not from what I can see, unfortunately!!

(plus in this case theres a difference between a 'threat' and an 'insult')

They are also thinking about revocating ZZ title as best player of the Cup.

So they're gonna swap titles: Cannavaro best player of the tournament, France the championship.

Next you will say Italy and France cannot hold the title because of the conduct of their players so they must give the title to Germany.

well at least the first one would correct a mighty wrong. Cannavaro was head and shoulders above everyone else

if i went out this afternoon and headbutted someone who happened to be black, i've no doubt some people would think it was a racist attack

maybe the Italian's can claim ZZ's assault was because he's anti Italian

maybe he hates pizzas too

I hesitated to put a smiley behind my remark, but didn't because I thought the irony was clear. Of course the swapping of titles won't happen, it would reduce the tournament to a farce. And btw, Italy was the rightful winner.

so, you're saying that the italian lout didn't say anything bad to Zidane ?

Re: OT: Italien WM 2006 titel in danger

I would like to say one thing.
How come in the 2004 European Championship no one ever questioned Francesco Totti about what Poulsen did say to him to provoke the reaction that lead him to be suspended for 4 games (Totti spit on Poulsen's face during Italy vs. Denmark)?
Because in football is the reaction foul that is to be punished, not what caused the reaction, that's why.
As Blatter, the head of the FIFA, loves Zidane and hates Italy, hence he didn't take part to the final cerimony, now we have to go through this ridiculous investigation.
In every sport very bad things are said on the playing field but they stay there.

Zidane's and Materazzi's ancestors many, many years ago.

"now we have to go through this ridiculous investigation."

I think it is not about giving the cup to one country or another, it's about racism. Racism is just not acceptable. Not in the street, not at school, not on a football pitch. By not investigating this, you're sending the message to the whole world that it's ok to be racist, that racist insults are just normal as they are so commonly used, and that it's fine to use them to try and win a sport game...It is just not acceptable.
I am amazed by the complacency of so many here regarding racism.

please dunhill don't mix up everything !

you're complaining because Blatter hates Italy, about Totti and Poulsen.

In fact, it's time to put an end to these bad behaviours

so, let's punish Zidane and Materazzi...for the moment, the only one to be punished is Zizou all right ?

to say that for this idiot words italy should give back the cup is at the same time pathetic and ridicolous not to mention hypocricy

Maybe Blatter didn't fancy having his picture taken with such a high concentration of guys on trial for corruption affairs...

I am not complacent at all as we don't know yet what kind of remarks have made ZZ lose his mind sunday evening.
If Materazzi had called him in a derogative racial way well, I could say I don't approve at all but it's not as if he went with a burning cross and a KKK hood in the field.
Italians get called maccaroni all the time in France and we don't make pleas to the UN for this.
