Elvis Presley - Trouble - Guitar Man 1968
[www.youtube.com]

King punches in for a Christmas special on TV.
They used different various takes of both these numbers on the show;
or kept some of the audio and had him change clothes and lip-synch on
another set blah blah.....
but many of us have the 3 DVD set with ALL the rehearsals, misakes and etc.

real small stage; real small audience; the band and orchestra pre-recorded for some of it;
and some of it live with much of his original recording musicians in a circle.
EP rarely seen and heard actually playing electric rhythm guitar with a bit
of feel.
even has a little run he uses before a chord change; alright big E.
anniverary of his inglorious sad passing coming up next week.
RIP Big E, a pioneer and walking rock and roll riot before the time
of most everybody here, including ancient mois....too young in '56 to really be part of his original fan base. I had to pretty much work
from his Army duties release backward; tho I had heard Jailhouse Rock
on a 45 single when around 8 or 9; before I was committed; or
was 'committed' somehow, to rock and roll prison instituion, happily, for the rest
of my crawling-like-a-kingsnake-days-doncha-know...
I do recall just staring at the portable victrola turntable when the camp
counselor (probably a teenager or earliest twenties themselves)
put that record on. I just stared at the thing going round and round,
pretty much right on top it; too young and stupid to know it was sorta
way uncool; but the guy understood and played it again.
He wouldn't play it a third time but i would have pretthy much
stood there staring as many times as I could get him to play it.
I'd still be there now probably.
When "Elvis 50 World Wide Hits Volume 1" you best believe I had it and
played it all through a thousand times....i couldn't believe they'd
have the nerve to put out a Volume 2 with another 8 sides.
i even bought his crap stuff on Camden, RCA's cheaper little label
for 'cutouts' and stuff that wasn't the big hits.
he did probably record several hundred songs.
like the beats and stones, they worked that guy to death until he quit performing and making movies altogether; burned out;
he came back as we all know; it shocked me; i missed the broadcast
in 68, but did get the album; and summer of '69, when it was hippie
heaven at Woodstock, which I did attend living in NY and just graduating
high school? come on; of course i was there....it wasn't even far....
but in truth, I was listening to little elses but my first ever bootleg;
"liver than you'll ever be' and Elvis' Singer Christmas Special.
("singer," for international fans out of NA, was referencing the
Singer sewing maching company and not big E as the 'singer' in the
official TV show title when broadcast.

he had to put some power into it; it was the first live performances
in front of an audience, however small in that studio, in many years,
and would ignite a brilliant series of tours, as he slowly, slowly
became more and more detached; you could see him playing and performing, and relating to his performing band more than the audience as things went on
thru the early to mid seventies.
I remember that August Day I heard of his passing on the radio, camping
out alone, far from others just me and the dawg that summer in a cabin
I was maintaing for a friend, far, far from any town or neighbor,
and was inconsolable and in shock anyway.
I hadn't realized the dynamics of actual show business stars personal lives,
and had not a clue that he was teetering on big trouble; tho i had known
he was sick and hospitlized somewhere along the way those last years.
It was 8/16/77. I never really got completely over it.
lester bangs wrote an homage/obituary/essay that sorta left a huge
lump in my throat.
Bangs wrote that this was his, (Lester's) good-bye too in a significant way; that the culture would never be this much im massive agreement about
one artist, or thing even, ever agian in our culture.
he was right imo.

I think from time to time King clearly
suprised even himself in those few historic days when they put this together.

On the other Stones forum they call their similar thread "I don't care what you are listening to right now". I'm afraid they are right. You want to share what you are listening to with others.
But the harsh reality is that few cares about that. Instead they are posting their own favourites. That no one listens to either...

I listen to most videos posted here - especially if it's something I haven't heard of, or at least the beginning of them. And if no video is posted, I look it up on youtube.
In honor of CindyC the originator of this thread (she is still missed)- the longest running thread in IORR history?!

I see, Hairball. By all means, keep posting. But I have a feeling it's pretty much a one way street. Almost no interaction between posters.
