Going to PHC stage show this coming Friday. Not really that familiar with the show, but I'm sure it will be fun. Garrison Keillor with special guests: Chris Thile, Heather Masse, and Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks.

Always listened on the radio, never seen live. I think you will like it since it is different. Let me know one way or another.

Yep..sad to say, none of my kids knew who he was till their Mom cranked up the music. Then again, I don't know half of what they listen to either. But, they definitely know who the Rolling Stones are!

The score from Death rides a horse from Ennio Morricone. Great stuff, also partial used for Kill Bill.

I'll look forward to the feedback as well... I spent many weekend evenings listening to the radio show with my dad when I was a kid. MUCH FUN.

Peace,

Oh... and back on topic: Beckology, Disc 2, Track 13 "Blues Deluxe/BBA Boogie" is currently helping me make it through the last 6 minutes of my week prior to a holiday weekend here in the USA.

It was fun, guys. I didn't get the tickets, so I didn't realize that last night was a rehearsal for the live radio broadcast tonight, which was sold out. Also didn't know that Garrison Keillor is retiring after just a few more broadcasts. The show was at The Filene Center at Wolf Trap, which has indoor seating and lawn seats. Keillor started the show up in the lawn seats by leading the crowd in America the Beautiful and a few other gospel/Americana songs - a nice way to start the evening.

All the musicians were excellent. Mandolin player and singer Cris Thile did a few of of his own songs and singer Heather Masse did some standards backed by Vince Giordano and the Night Hawks. The skits were heavy on politics, I guess to be expected in the Washington DC area. Keillor also did a bit about trying to rename all the DC alphabet streets and, of course, the news from Lake Wobegon. You knew it was an old crowd when he told a story about a nurse giving him an enema...my least favorite moment. The funniest sketch that I remember was his first one about how much better things are today. Frankly, I kinda tuned out some during the stories - it was a long week and I hadn't been feeling well - but the crowd seemed to love them all. Keillor sings well, don't know why that surprised me, but it did, and his duets with Masse were lovely. It was very cool to see the sound effects guy Fred Newman do his thing, amazing the sounds the guy can make.

The intermission was different - the house lights went up as usual, but Keillor and Masse stayed on stage and sang some songs through the whole break. I'm guessing it's because during the live radio broadcast there isn't an intermission for those who are listening at home. At the end, he lead the crowd again through some goodbye songs, including Goodnight Irene - yes, I thought of Keith Richards. smiling smiley That was one of the magical moments in the evening, even my teen son sang along to the few songs he knew.

I felt like a tourist a lot of the night as I really don't ever listen to PHC and the crowd certainly seemed to know the whole routine. It was probably the oldest and whitest crowd I've been in for a while, saw quite a few canes and wheelchairs. I'm thinking of tuning into the live radio broadcast tonight to see how it compares to the performance I saw. All in all, it was a nice way to spend a warm Friday night.
