When the ABKCO remasters came out, I bought them all in a bundle, so, at 06:00 Hrs, this morning I thought I'd listen to 11 hits by the Stones. I was also putting my cds into alphabetical order, so I thought why not have some hits.

Yes, the rhythm and that guitar woo-woo-ing away on and off all through the song. Probably isn't even deliberate - it's just that Sympathy and other Stones material are in rock's DNA now, and keep reappearing in new generations.
