the two new Beach Boys 1968 copyright extension sets. absolutely effing superb. possibly the best 60's archival release of the year and the best BB release since the Smile box and Hawthorne.

this is four good cats and one good song and they are shaking it live ,
(and stripped down).
out of control.
early Eagles.
UK appearance. The original 4 members.

-------------------

how you like those guitars? That's pretty great live sound;
or studio sound actually; I mean it's '73, this is a real good example, imo,
of that super warm crunch sound really rockin' country rock.
At the time, and still now actually, The Stones country-ish stuff,
especially the 'golden' period LP's...thinking eoms mostly because that
was released around the same time these guys were putting their act together,,,
....i'm not sure of interactions, if any significant, between Gram and any of these guys, or Don Felder who would come on in pretty early; they
had a lot of major line-up changes, but I like this early original more rocking verson of them best; and the other stuff not so much at all really...
tho Don has written some really beautiful songs for his solo albums...
i haven't heard Glen's and stop listening to Joe's tho everybody loves Joe Walsh and me too...
.....but man, if you walked into a bar in 1973, or 2019, and four skinny white cats, two with afros, ... just two guitars a bass player and drummer...
and this big hot crunchy ferocious and hungry little band is getting itself off; well you'd order a round for everyone close and feel you were in the right place.
you can see Frey's great awesome joy as well as his no-hold-barred ferocity
delivering the vocals. the bg vocals are crisp and dead-on. lovely stuff
in the midst of hard hot gringing rolling romp; that's what I get out of it anyway; i was glad to find this last year and listened many times...
....
i'd seen them live in their latter stages and it was really super to get
a nap like that; my girlfriend was so cute the way she wiped my drool.

Glen plays a hot lead and is really just eating up the scenery here but it feels earnest and real; his triumphant little grins here and there at the others before he leans in to really nail the hell out of a verse is the golden stuff i really love about rock and roll history; and in my little world, this would get a big rave in my 'rhythym review' as Chuck related in Roll Over Beethoven. i love the ferocity and abandon in the story and in the delivery.

but this is purty good in hoppy's tattered but still pulsing rock and roll diary.
