I am listening to a promo issue of "Spitting Image"; the new album by the Strypes, due in June.
I don't know if we have ever had a thread devoted to them here. But we should have. Great band from Ireland. What is it in the water on that island? To give us so many superb musicians?
But yeah, the Strypes...they started out as teenagers. I remember seeing them on Jools Holland when they still had that single "Blue Collar Jane", and being blown away. I don,t know...was it the the singer coming on like Keith Relf 50 years young? The excellent guitarist who announced each of his solos, and had good hair too? Or the bassist, who at this point in time still found a way to play the Bass in a unique original style?
I had to wonder how a group of youngsters could get the sound and the lyrics so very right. I confess I thought there was a producer behind all this who conceived, wrote and directed it all. But time proved me wrong.

The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever

Ahhh crap - just realized the above is an edited clip!
Can't find song in it's entirety as youtube has deleted so much of the Beatles.
When all else fails, flip the 45 over and listen to the other side for a complete version of Penny Lane.... smiling smiley

Tell Him - The Exciters (Live)

the studio version a massive hit in '62. one of the most important, seminal, influential and certainly unheralded girl groups ever.

Stones Live '65:
[youtu.be]
0:34:51 -- Everybody Needs Somebody
0:35:29 -- Pain in My Heart
0:37:32 -- Around and Around
0:39:56 -- The Last Time

this is one of my ab fave clips of them ever. it's all here. they are pros but they are natural and spinning quite a web, casting quite a spell, creating their own atmosphere naturally and it's killer.
this is their entire set that night; and they are still scoring off it in my house.
