That Tom Anderson guitar that appears on the Wembley pic posted by Rockman is the one I had mentioned in my post. Kind of a mix between a Strat (body shape, knobs position) and a Telecaster (bridge, pickups...).

jagger looks so good in those last two shots. especially the one at the table with switchblade.
I just remembered where all of us have seen that blue guitar: on the cover of Karnbach's book.

beautiful - thank you Rockman! so what is that he's got in the second shot -
an ES-355 with a lyre tailpiece? so that would be a mid-60s model?

Re: Mick J's Guitars

That ES-355 with lyre is most likely from 1963, and it was Taylor's 355. He played it a lot during studio sessions (the solo for Can't You Hear Me Knocking for example), and he took it with him after he left the Stones. He played it live with Jack Bruce for example. After 1975 I have never seen it again.

Damn Rocker! Now that is a rare one. This one comes close to my favorite Jagger pic EVER!! I have this shot of Jagger that I think no one has ever seen. And believe me, I feel like a real tool talking bout ity and not posting it. I have to figure out a way to get it from my magazine onto IORR. But it is from this era when Jagger's hair was still dyed black and long. He is smoking a cigar in the picture.

i'd be interested in what acoustics he might have played on any of the tracks, early or late...if anyone knows...
maybe there should be an acoustic thread someday...for keith mick and brian...studio and otherwise...

?

there is a Keith's Acoustics thread, Beely - here's the link: [iorr.org]
but yeah i love discussions of where we can hear the different instruments' voices, so ... bring it on :E

That isn't too complicated luckily! Until 1975, basically all acoustics were Gibson Hummingbirds. They had at least five hummingbirds in '69. For a change, they also used a Gibson J200, a Gibson J185 and a harmony 12-string. But studio '65 to '75: Hummingbids.

Live also Gibson's were used until 1972, where MArtin 000-28 and OM-28's turned up, as wel as various Gibsons. From 1975 on, both Martins and Gibsons were used.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but is the Hummingbird Mick is seen playing these days, also on the cover of his Goddess album etc the very same one played by Brian in 1969?

That Tom Anderson guitar that Mick is playing on the Steel wheels tour only has five strings which suggests to me it was tuned to open G.

Looks like Mick has two 12-string acoustics in his collection, nice! Wonder if either was used for " Tell Me", so many years ago. There is not a sexier man to hold a guitar, IMO. EVER!

>> Looks like Mick has two 12-string acoustics in his collection <<

where are you looking at the 12-strings in his collection, please & thank you?
and yeah, maybe Keith gave him his Tell Me 12-string - he's said he had two at the time,
a Harmony and a Guild. i reckon Mick could have gotten his own in the meantime, though :E

That would be cool if Mick used gibson les pauls, gibson sgs and gibson es-335 and gibson es-345 again along with acoustic gibsons.

Can't say for sure, but it does appear to be so. It also appears to be same as Keith used so much at Nellcote.
