What can they do to rescue this tour?
Posted by: Harm ()
Date: June 27, 2006 23:05

A free concert in Rome? That would be nice for a change.
Personally I think the next tour will suk. Ron on stage as a ghost, Mick being pissed at Keith, shows being cancelled, low sales....
What a way to end!

I would not be surprised at all if they jump-started the tour by changing the setlist and add some rare old tunes...guaranteed interest.

Surprise club gigs in every major town and city in Europe at 7 euros per person entry until a band member drops dead.

play the @#$%& shows...thats all it takes. No stupid excuses. A few of the promised $50 theatre shows would be nice as a way of compensation

you wont have to worry about that scenario. There wont be one after this.

I was going to suggest handing out roses to the VIP-seat-audience, from the stage.... No?

Cancel this whole thing.

Come back around 2008 with a helluva show and 40 dollar tickets.

Let's not get carried away here.

For guys in their 60s, they played great shows in North America so far and okay they have had to delay/cancel some shows because of Keith's "accident" (or whatever it was) but they will bounce back next month in Europe with some great live shows and will be forgiven/forgotten.

Have some faith! It's only people like us who populate boards like this who take everything so acutely!

why? what has happened in the last few days to warrant it?

You reckon? And youve already spoken to the half million people who have bought tickets for shows for this year, seen their shows 'postponed' to next year due to an act of rank stupidity (many of whom have no refunds on the flights theyve had to cancel as a result) and will soon be told the shows wont take place at all because the band cant be arsed?

This board is on the verge of imploding from all the rumors and mass hysteria, so I'm gonna step away until the tour resumes.

As I've said elsewhere, once July 11 rolls around and the group is back on stage, this place will get back on track.

Unil then, remember the legal principle of habeas corpus -- in this case, don't be holding a funeral when there's no body to present.

Later, folks.

Emotionally?

Re: What can they do to rescue this tour?

Play 21 shows in Europe like their lives depend on it - which to an extent at this moment in time they do.

I have a better idea..... They should play for at least 3 hours and perform their best tunes..... and perhaps, add all the cancelled shows back to the original schedule. Then, we may forgive them.....

What really puzzles me is the great dichotomy of the glorious Licks Tour (which was only a couple of years ago) and the disastrous current Tour (crazy prices, floppy set lists, lack of theatre shows and an overall couldn't-care-less attitude). It reminds of the Titanic sinking.

That's why last tour I went to 22 concerts and now only 6.

if this will be the last tour, it is a sad ending indeed.
i watched the msg gig from 4 flicks yesterday.
after that tour and the fine dvd set, it would have
suited them better to say goodbye.
but let's wait and see...

They should have said goodbye after the Licks-tour? That is a very grateful attitude to guys who just released a great album, and have played a great US-tour with lots of guitars high in the mix, a reasonably sober Ronny, and plans to tour Europe!
Come on, you don't own them, they're not yours in any way. They can do whatever they want, if they want to tour, they can. Nobody forces anybody to buy tickets.

Keith has had an unfortunate accident that COULD have ended very very much worse, and all we do is just whine, and whine and whine and whine.
All predicting the end, contesting eachother in being the first one to say its all over now, so IF it happens you can say: I knew it back then, I already saw it coming... Good for you, wonderful prediction, man you are smart.

If you are to old (or your mind has become too rusty) to cope with the unpredictability and unforeseen changes, just call it a day, and buy some Norah Jones. Maybe you've just been spoiled for these 45 years of Rolling Stones, delivering on time and serving you well. Nice, but I'm not that old, I am glad that I get the opportunity to visit them two more times this year, and who knows what the future will bring.

Excuse me if I disrupted anyone in his feeling so sorry-mood, you're entitled to return to that mood for as long as you like now.

and whats that got to do with postponing shows (which was of course totally reasonable) and then deciding not to play them after all?

If he's healthy enough to play this summer's shows, then he's healthy enough to play the postponed shows at a future date that suits him. Or have I missed something?

This 'accident' excuse is a pile of crap and ceases to have any validity once the tour resumes in two weeks..

Nothing needs to be saved IMO. They've made it the best possible tour they could having Keef's accident in the back of my head.

i disagree.
They haven't made it the best possible tour they could have
- they have cancelled shows and cut the tour short.

Yeah. Because of the accident. So it's the best possible tour they could make after the fall.

For me, the worst part is not the cancelled shows and the shorter tour.

The worst part is the lack of honest information. If they said from the very beginning, look guys, we're not gonna play in 2007 cause it'll be too tiresome for us, or we're getting too old and it's risky or we got cricket matches to watch or something, then I'd be more willing to understand it. When you postpone a gig and you say to people "hold on to your tickets, the gig WILL be rescheduled", you create expectations. When you cancel this same gig less than a month later, where does that leave us?

They knew from the beginning. Why "postpone"? Why issue an ambiguous press release that says "this is all we're going to play this year" if you're thinking of adding the postponed shows in September? They alluded to a 2007 tour and yet they're the ones saying there was never any sort of such thing. And in the end it's not even them anymore, it's rumours you hear left and right and news collected by fans. Does the official site mention anything? No. Do the Stones themselves say anything about it? No. Expect a Cohl statement in the next few days trying to explain the unexplainable.

They don't make sense, they're completely detached from the fans and they don't even care at all, and that's what makes me angry. I don't expect them to console or "care" for us in that sort of manner, but you'd expect the least: the common decensy between customers and sellers, if that's the way they see it these days. To get what you pay for, this is where it all added up to. Degraded to hell. It's getting sadder by the minute.
