so KR uses all this chain of amps to get his "PA" sound. anyone know what he uses when not listening to monitors, ie;rehearsal, just palyin around at home?

Keith always says that he almost exclusively plays acoustic at home.
He also admits to never having been particularly technical with regard to his kit.
He's obviously learnt down the years what works and what doesn't and this, coupled with his wonderful ear for tone and vibe, is what has shaped his sound. He'll spend time looking for the right sound and try anything that's at hand to get it.

can you figure out which one keith is plugged into?

can't imagine using Hiwatts for recording; they're so loud. the Dual Showman is no slouch in that department, either.

Yikes, have fun trying to follow those cables!!!

But I reckon both the Hiwatt and the Fender are atleast switched on due to the mains lights standing out in the photo. It looks like there's a booth set up behind Brian so there could also be an amp in there as well.

That's correct, it's: Ground Sw, Fuse (3A), Power Sw, Standby Sw, Pilot Lamp, Presence, Mid, Bass, Treb Bright Vol, Normal Vol, Bright In, Bright In, Normal In, Normal In. The jack goes into the low sensitive bright channel. Apperently the left amp (picture 046) is the clean amp, as the right amp's volume is on ~8, driving the power amp in to overdrive.

The reissued amp is a different amp then Keith's. The Fender reissue is the '57 low power narrow panel 5E8 Twin, 40 watts into two Alnico Jensen's. This amp never had a mid pot. Keith's Twin is the bigger '58 to '60 wide panel 5F8 twin, 80 watts into two alnico Jensens, with the mid pot.

The biggest difference is that the narrow panel Twin has two rectifiers, and the wide panel twin has one rectifier. With 'only' one rectifier, the wide panel Twin yields more sag and compression when driven hard, making it more crunchy and raunchy sounding.

Keith's 5F8 Twin is actually a Narrow Panel "Big Box" Twin.
the wide panel is model 5C8 and 5D8, built from '53 - '55
at least according to this site.
