All I know is that this guy is an ace in this camp. Plus it wouldn't surprise me if he had some insider info too! In any case, trust me ... he is an authority!

I asked for more info. Will let everybody know if there is news!

He's right about the Ibanez UE-400 though. I wonder what he uses this effect for. I have a hunch it's the phaser he used on Shattered.

Crazy huh? After finding those pics I'm sure glad I didn't go and spend £500 on one for sale last year!

eh, aren't we missing something? We're only looking at the top side where the mains transformer is -the circuit board is most probably positioned at the other side! There several parts missing from the board -the pre-amp, the chokes, the caps fro the EQ section, the fuzz sections isn't there as well. I think we're only looking at the power amp section.

Here's the inside of a Vox Dynamic Bass:

Yes there is more underneath, but it's still rather sparse. smiling smiley

The inside of that Dynamic is from a VSL era which is later than JMI amps so there will be some differences.

thanks Open-G honey! and thanks Stonesfrk for pointing us to the right brand of that mysterious little amp.
(apologies for previously misleading people into thinking it was a Leslie! ahh the power of suggestion ... )

here's a shot of it from 2005:

I don't understand it yet. Oahu was a brand name of Valco, who made cheap litle amps for cheap guitars, and for lap and pedal steel guitars.

This Oahu amp seems to be made by people who go mad over old German microphone preamps, mainly from Neumann and Telefunken. These people also seem to build the new Oahu amps, but I don't understand the connection yet.

Mathijs, not that it clarifies much but:
it looks like Jester Enterprises bought Valco (or maybe just the Oahu brand?) at some point,
and on the site Open-G posted for us it says "TAB-Funkenwerk is a registered trademark of Jester Products LLC. Seattle, WA USA"

Well, that's about all I can find as well. I simply can't find any more info on this amp!

I admit I couldn't resist: I HAD to buy at least something from Keith's set, so I got the MAster Blaster. I didn't have a clue of what the thing was, how it worked, all I can is I bought it because it was the cheapest of the lot (USD 130 - delivered)!

I tried it out yesterday for the first time: ok, i don't want to say that it radically transformed shit in gold, but, hell, fantastic!

It adds that delicious fat, can't call it distortion, that is the cream on the cake of keith 06 sound.

Fantastic.

For the rest i was using my strat + amp (victoria's imitation of the low power twin)

Nice, Liddas.
I would love to hear a sound sample.
could you record a riff snippet for us with the Master Blaster turned on/ off.
would be great to hear what it actually does.

Includes a bit about Keith and his history with these amps, albeit that there's still not much to go on...

In 1996 the year Oliver started his first repair and custom audio shop, the tribute to the historic "Valco manufacturing company" today better known as "The Oahu" was the 2nd product to be introduced.
Loosely based upon the historic small combo amp that the Valco company build from 1945 to 1958 in various forms and sold under names such as Supro, Dobro, Tonemaster and Oahu, the first 50 units were all hand made in Oliver basement in Seattle.

In the true spirit of a custom made amplifier all components were handmade, metal chassis were hand bend made of surplus aircraft aluminum bought at the Boeing Surplus Store, the transformer were handwound on an slightly modified Sunbeam mixer, vacuum coated with ground down shellac records, the woodboxes were made recycling 50 year old plywood and cedar.

Since Oliver worked in one way or other for most of the Seattle based bands, word spread fast and several high profile musicians stopped by at Oliver shop to buy an Oahu.
They carried the news of this great recording amp all over the globe and soon orders came in from all over the world. The demand for this small 15 Watt amp was so high that the young company moved into 4000 square feed production rooms and stared to build them now under the "Jester Products" name.

From 1998 to 2000 approx. 300 Oahu's were made in various tube set up and woodbox/covering styles, over 50% of the amps were sold to Japan, Germany and Switzerland, but in April of 2000 the company was closed due to the fact that it was nearly impossible to retain the handmade spirit of the first 50 units handbuild by Oliver.

Aside production problems as well as what happens when you have 25 plus people on the payroll, Oliver and his partner Christian decided to close Jester Products.

Oliver started the now current company AMI mainly with the focus on the next generation U/V units but kept on building Oahu amps on and off as well as providing service and replacement parts for the "Jester Product" units.

In mid 2005 one of the earliest customer of the Oahu amps, Mr. Keith Richards (in 1996 he bought 10 amps) contacted Oliver to see if he could buy more of those amps.
During the 2006 concert in Omaha Nebraska a formal order was placed for 20 of the Oahu amps. Since Mr. Richards ask for an exclusivity on the classic B/W vinyl coving, we do not offer that style anymore.

Since the begging of the Oahu production several amps were made by Minstrel Music in Chicago, ordering just the chassis and making the wood enclosures themselves.

Since all units that are currently made are handmade we mainly sell Oahu amps direct, but you can contact any of our dealers for more info on them.

That sir, is a brilliant definition of an 'anorak' as seen trainspotting etc in the UK. I hope none of us ever become 'anoraks' ...:-).....

I wonder:

In this (fantastic) picture, the white box is the Tube Tabe Echo, on its right the Master Blaster. The thing right of the Master Blaster is the controller for the Ibanez UE-400.

What`s underneath the Master Blaster?

And what`s that box left of the Tube Tape Echo?

Some copy & paste from the Fulltone website:

The Rolling Stones> 'TTE's, 69, ((Stereo)) Deja'Vibe, CLYDE wah, FD2

7/05 The Rolling Stones buy 6 x TTE's, a Clyde Deluxe, and an OCD

11/25/06 Ron Wood is now touring with the TTE (joining bandmate Keith Richards)

Nice info Liddas. I'm extremely tempted to buy A MasterBlaster myself, now at least we know it adds the creamy richness winking smiley By the way, the Fulltone TTE, which songs does Keith use it? If I understand it correctly its "just" a delay - does it do anything else? Please explain, you great ones.
