I recently bought a Telcaster 52' reissue, along with a Fender deville amp, 4 x 10's in it. I'm telling you , the combination is incredible, you need absolutely no stomp boxes, nothing but a little talent with your ryhthm playing , and you have Keef's sound. The gain/drive on the amp can give you his latest sound, or play around and you've got Bye Bye Johnny. While the outlay isn't cheap, around 2000 bucks all together if you shop smart, (that's US dollars) but if you truly want that Richards sound, this will do it for you! I know some guys with solid state amps that claim they can get that sound, but not so. Fender + Fender = SUPERB.
Sweet! I'd love to be able to get that sound one day. Can you play the Start Me Up riff and make it sound like it does on the Babylon To Bridges DVD (the St. Louis show)? Cause that's the great fat sound that I would love to get! I so much want to buy a Telecaster, I just don't know when that's going to happen.
Forligan, I agree, nothing really beats Fender + Fender. Only trouble is playing it somewhere where you can play loud enough to get the total sound without relly upsetting the neighbours. I used to play more Stones (Strat) but nowadays I'm more comfortable live (in my local pub) with Country/folk stuff on Acoustic Guitar or Mandolin. No Expectations I love !!! If you get down to Cornwall during the summer look me up in the "Silver Ball", St. Columb, Cornwall. Even if it rains, the surfs pretty good. Chris
My equipment aren't the best to get Keith's sound.I have strat and a Marshall 15w. The only thing I say is that if you don't have a place away from neighbors etc you can't get the right sound no matter what. You have to turn the volume etc up.It's not just being louder but the whole sound changes when you turn up the volume.
I have an original mid 60s Fender Super Reverb and a replica Fender '72 Telecaster Custom and if I use the vibrato channel I feel like I'm almost taking off. On certain songs, like Street Fighting Man, I've never felt so close to Keith
Obviously if you want to sound like Keith you have to start smoking and keep it up with at least a pack a day for about 40 years. You will also have to drink a lot of Jack Daniels. I try very hard every weekend.
The Mexican Classic series '72 Custom and '50s Tele are great guitars on a tighter budget. My Classic 50s, [with the addition of only a ferrous grounding plate for the bridge pup and some brass saddles] is a nicer Tele than my USA 52 RI.
hi guys, customize your tele, put an humbucker in neck position, tune it to open G, remove lower E string, plug it on a fender twin , crank the volume up ... that's it ciao

I would suggest the Japanese made 1972 Custom. Japanese Fenders are far beter guitars than Mexican Fenders, but are the same price. Japanese Fenders rival American Fender's.
For that instant classic 1976 - 1985 Stones sound, I still love my Boogie Mark IIB.
