Forty Licks climbs 23-19 on the UK albums chart. BBC Radio 1 played Don't Stop during their chart show and the DJ said: "the Stones are back on the top 20 after 43 years of the debut single, and they're still alive kids!"

Unbelievable. Hard to understand what is causing this upswing in sales.

simple answer - the tour

Stones record sales and back catalogie always increase when theres a tour

different scenario to North America as its been 30 years since they toured Europe behind a newly released album - we always have to wait a year to see them

40 licks is getting heavy promotion again on TV, its probably available at a reduced price, the band are about to tour here and theyve been in the news a lot lately with Keith's mishap.

Pretty shitty though that Virgin see fit to cash in on the tour by promoting a 4 year old compilation instead of a new and critically acclaimed studio album which they appear to have given up on. As far as Virgin is concerned, this may as well be the 40 Licks tour...(then again, some people would argue that the Stones see it that way too..)

Georgelicks and Gazza,

If i remember correctly, B2B has sold 120,000 copies in UK. What about ABB for the time being?

You're asking the wrong man regarding sales - I defer to my more knowledgeable compadre from Argentina!!

B2B sold more than that, maybe 140k.
ABB sold 109k in 2005, it must be close to 120/130k now.

pretty impressive by comparison, considering BTB is 9 years old and they havent played in the UK on the current tour yet
