Great intro. Great hooks through out. An unyielding background vocal at the end that won't submit to Mick's manic no no no's. Great production also. This is one of the greatest Stones songs from the Brian Jones era. I was very young too when this song came out and maybe the reason why I'm hooked to this day.

I do not wish the Stones performing The Last Time, except if Jagger says "see you next year" - Would be slightly pathetic.

agree it was among the highest of the highlights of the B2B tour...opening night in chi-town was killer....

That's the greatest lead riff on a Stones song, ever. Even better than Satisfaction . . .

Sometimes I almost think that it is their best recording ever. It is hypnotic, a transcendent performance. I mean, how it could be better? The young, hungry, angry, wild Stones. Andrew Loog Oldham's best piece of production ever. It's timeless.

But I don't prefer they playing it anymore. They just don't have the suitable attitude anymore.

Thanks for the "THE"! According to some authors, it IS Brian. But nobody is trustworthy....I wish somebody else could confirm it.

Any of you players ever try to figure that lick out? It's really a strange one even after you've got it! I'm sure it was Brian playing that. I've never heard it played anything like that on stage.

We don't hear those howls much now, they were wild! Couldn't be good for the voice, the day after.

5string, I hear Brian playing that lick, me too!
It's easy to play that lick, but it's not that easy to get the right swing over it.

I remember reading an interview with Ron Wood several years ago. He said Keith Richards plays the riff now, but every time he plays it, his mind goes back to Brian Jones and he thinks of him the entire song.

Hello Erik! It's easy once you get it but learning it right was tricky. I mean who would think of a nine fret hammer-on? I stumbled on it after playing it wrong for so long. Cheers!

I found out while trying to play J L Hooker's Boom Boom, 10 years ago.
It's one of those "finding out when you try to find out something else"-licks, cheers!

>> someone will kindly chime in with a confirmation <<

smile: confirmation that you are THE Erik_Snow, or that Brian plays that riff? i can kindly confirm both - well, almost! :E
in footage from 60s performances and playback situations you can see Brian playing the riff, or pretending to,
and that may indicate that he played it on the studio track as well.
