What is the best sounding boot from the 72 tour. I have Welcome To New York and it is the best I've heard so far. The only other one i have is Ft Worth Express and it just sounds too muddy and i can't believe that it is a soundboard recording. Is there a boot from the soundtrack of Ladies and Gentlemen....? I would expect that one would sound the best.

I got turned onto one called Lonestar Shooters that was just remastered recently(not sure of all the technical lingo), but it does sound really good other than a few hiccups here and there. It's probably the same as the Ft Worth Express just a different title, but I can't say that my copy sounds "muddy".

There is an audio boot of the L & G soundtrack.My favourite '72 live cd as far as sound quality goes is The Unreleased Decca Live Album which has a few Fort Worth tracks but,it also has tracks from Philadelphia and a couple from Boston.

The Ladies and Gentlemen boot is the best in my view. "Unreleased Decca" is also quite good.

Best sound is the L&G soundtrack - not my overall fave from the tour, though....

The best version of the L&G soundtrack is on

the 2CD "You Can't Do That Baby" (VGP-314).

Digitally remastered - perfect sound!

Mathijs will tell you it's Akron '72, both for the sound and the performance.

When do you people think they REALLY got it together in 72?
Hollywood Palladium...Chicago or Texas. If you listen to San Fransisco for instance, it's really good ofcourse, but not as good as later on. Opinions on this?

I hear them gaining steam steadily starting in mid June.The end of June and the beginning to middle of July was the Stones at their best.

I really wish they would release offically a series of shows - even among the ones that are widely available as boots - that span their entire career. From 1972, the show in Vancouver would be my pick. It has what I think is the only live performance of Ventilator Blues as well as rare performances of Loving Cup and Torn and Frayed. The boot I have doesn't sound so great - I would gladly pay $15-$20 for a more polished official release.

Haven't heard the Tuscaloosa boot, but I'll take anything they are willing to put out there.

I watched the restored Gimme Shelter movie yesterday. Apart from the usual depressive state that invariably strikes me when I think about what I have missed (being born in 1977 and all), I couldn't help but wonder how much unreleased material they must have in the vaults that sounds so amazingly great. For all the talk about them being bloodsuckers or capitalist pigs, they sure are stingy with their unreleased material.

Charlotte or Pittsburgh - these are proper concerts as opposed to "compilations" (Live Decca, You Can't Do That...)

That's because the only thing Jagger cares more about than money is trying to not appear like a nostalgia or oldies act, at least as much as possible. I'm sure he feels that putting out a bunch of archival stuff while the band is still going would contribute to that image. I think we're going to have to wait until after the Stones are no longer active to get official archival releases, but at some point I'm sure there will be a flood of them.

Good to see Pittsburgh mentioned: a hot hot show near the end of the tour with the two graces (Nicky and MT) more upfront than on any other show I know of. A far from perfect soundboard but still very enjoyable because of the 100% seperation. Undeservedly underrated IMO.

Performance wise absolutely the best show, but soundwise it is a mediocre soundboard.

I would say the best boot is Stones Touring Party, 7 CD's of all known soundboards in best ever quality.

One of the most interesting boots from this tour is "Very Ancient, Thank you Kindly". Although it's a patchwork of different shows (and sources which can be quite unnerving soundwise), it contains many highlights in "9 out of 10" sound qualitiy and even some tracks with overdubs, prepared (or nearly ready) for the planned live album of the tour.

I agree with L&G beeing the best sounding boot so far, but I don't think all of the tracks are as good as it gets (save for "Tumbling Dice" and some others). I'd prefer boots like "Philadelphia special" or "Ahmet Ertegun ..." - they might sound a little less "balanced" but capture more "atmosphere" (more at least than my version of L&G from the TMOQ label, which seems to prefer the audience to the music).

my only problem with "Very Ancient" is the lack of inclusion of the tour's singular highlight - YCAGWYW. Had that been included, it would be my fave boot from the tour.....

About all the fuss about the L&G soundtrack being the best '72 boot soundwise, I honestly disagree and have to say that I myself prefer the "Philly Special" kind of sound quality: I mean, to enjoy properly a '72 show you have to hear Keith on the right and Mick Taylor on the left channel, and the L&G soundtrack clearly lacks (a lot of) channel separation. The guitars seem to be back or front, instead of left and right where they should be.

(And starting another heresy here: Brussels 73 lacks this channel separation too!! Brown Sugar from Rotterdam 73 sounds quite better to my ears because of this)

The "old" source, like "Brussels Affair" or "Europe 73"(edition #1-#4) is like that...not a very clear stereo-seperation.
But on "Europe 73"(5th edition) plus "Nasty Music" (from VGP...not the other ones), the stereo seperation is much better.
So, it looks like you have to upgrade your Brussels boot, to get Taylor and Richards on each side of your table.

I think some of the "Very Ancient" tracks also run a little fast, as well.

But yeah, there is some great stuff on there.
