Eagles VS CSN&Y

I always been interested in knowing how people felt between these to "american" super groups. I was reading the Eagles thread and decided it was time to find out.

I saw the Eagles on the Hotel California tour in 77 (I think LOL) when they were at their absolute peak. Ended up in front row because I scalp a backstage pass for $13 from some groupie at the Cleveland Colosium. It was the heyday - long hair, pot smoke filled the venue - the crowd was charged but the band was still lame and thats hard to say because I lived by Hotel California for a year LOL (I was 15 or 16). Use hangout in this park in Ohio called the "Flats", hundreds of people just chilled out there playing freesbie and getting high listening to music and Hotel California was def one of the big ones that year. To bad they are so boring live.

That said, if I were stranded on an island I would easily choice a CSN&Y cd over Eagles - most likely 4WayStreet - still one of my top 5 favorite live albums. And, I would much rather see CSN&Y than the Eageles, though I never had the chance to see them all together until they did a short set at Farm AID in VA several years ago - It Blew me Away! David Crosby pulled off "Almost Cut My Hair" as if it were 1970!

CSN&Y will probably be the only concert I see this summer aside from Oz Fest - yea I know but I love Disturbed!

CSNY by 3.4 miles

I like the Eagles up to about 1974, but they sold out bigtime thereafter.

I wish I could afford the CSNY tour this year....think I'll save up for Derek & The Dominoes instead

I like them both. I always wanted to see the eagles but their appearances near my home always came at bad times. I also remember they were the first artists to break the $100 per ticket threshhold back in the 1990's. I've seen Neil Young a few times and CS&N once. I saw Neil and Crazy Horse during their Live Rust tour and was totally blown away by it. I guess my vote would be for the Eagles, nonetheless. I can't tell you why.

Is it because of the Eagle-photo posted under the car-thread.....?

lukester - you give kudos to CSNY and say nothing pertinent about the Eagles and then vote Eagles? I'm sorry, we cannot accept this vote - hanging chad, or something....

CSNY if only for NEIL YOUNG! Neil ROCKS! He's Canadian though like so many other good men.

I HAVE SEEN THEM BOTH..NUMEROUS TIMES; I USED TO LIKE THEM; NOW I CAN TAKE OR
LEAVE THEM BOTH; NEITHER HAS ANY NEW MATERIAL TO SPEAK OF; MY THOUGHTS ARE WHY
SEE THEM IN CONCERT WHEN YOU CAN STICK ON A CD AND BLAST IT LOUD..JUST LIKE THE
SHOW BUT BETTER..CHEAPER..AND DON'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH SOME LAME DRUNK...OH THAT WAS ME...!

Eagles VS CSN&Y ?

As long as they eliminate each other...

no new material? In case folks aren't aware - on this summer's CSNY tour - they will be playing Neil's new, politically-right-on new album in its entirety. Also, Stephen Stills' recent new gem will get some play. They are NOT an oldies act....

I am always surprised when I see people who are fans of the Stones not like Neil.

How is Stills' latest album? I haven't heard it but heard about some new hippie sing-a-long song that he has played live recently.

the song you're talking about was actually a duet with Herbie Hancock - Spanish Suite recorded in 1979...excellent, as is the whole album. Two rockers with Neil trading licks, that will sure to be apart of the tour setlist....

CSN&Y, easy.

The Eagles sold a lot of records, CSN&Y were culturally and musically important, at least for a time.

HD - I misspoke about the song you were likely referring to - I think the one you're referring to is called Feed the People (with Nash on co-vocal) - it's a kind of reggae tune....

Like I said...CSNY no new material; they are supporting Neil Young's new album;
maybe David Gilmour will show up and play his new stuff with Crosby/Nash as well.

what difference does it make whether it's new CN, Still solo, Neil solo? - all of them have new albums since the last group tour....

Probably because I'd rather see Neil do his material with Crazy Horse rather
than CSN. Just like I'd rather see Stills play with Manassas which now that
I think of it would be pretty cool.

I wonder why don CSNY tour Europe. How I would love to see their show.It must be spectacular.

Regarding The Eagles, even though they are a fine band there is no way they can even come close to CSNY.

well, given the fact that there are but 3 CSNY studio albums to draw from, it makes all the sense in the world that they'd do "solo" or smaller group numbers.....

I like them both but neither are among my favorites. I'm with whoever said they'd rather see Neil solo than with CSN&Y. Both the Eagles and CSN&Y have some great songs, but both also have some pretty wimpy material. Some of it crosses the line from "this is so laid back" to "I'm slipping into a coma, someone please kill me."

and, even though you qualified this with the quotation, let us not forget that CSNY is only 50% American.....

Easy hot Scot baby. Neil Young is a genius and has some deep material. He plays from his gut which is where all the good stuff comes from and Like A Hurricane is a very powerful love song. It can bring me to tears. Cowgirl In The Sand? That is another great song and my all time favorite Neil tune.

And what no clever name for Steely Dan, such as Sucky Dan or Silly Dan?

Steely Dan is parody enuff, doncha think?

Re: Eagles VS CSN&Y

Well I didnt want to confuse people with Sucky Dan. Dan who? Anyways, everyone's allowed to have their opinions. Its one of the great things about freedom. =) Alot of people really like Neil Young but I am not one of them. CSN&Y isnt HORRIBLE, but its just not my style. Too generic for me. I'd rather hear Tony Rice or any number of bluegrass artists over any of that stuff.

I'm sure alot of it is very heartfelt music but Neil Young comes off very forced to me. I prefer the Bob Dylan style of composition than Neil Young's. Subtle nuances do alot more for me than direct political messages. Morality is much more interesting than politics. Morality is concrete whereas political messages are dependent on popular sentiment. I have a firm grip on what I believe and will not be swayed by the public, so politics has very little meaning to me.

C & N, S and Y have all put out decent music lately. That last C&N double-album was quite nice for the most part, Stills sounded re-vitalized on his last one, and Neil's last 2 are at least up to his standards, if not among his best.

I'm looking forward to the Atlanta gig!

As for Steely Dan, it does seem appropriate that they are named after a dildo, but I dig their stuff, quirky as it is!
