Steven,

Fact - About a month before the Stones show Taylor was in Canada, he told fans
there he was suppose to play with the Stones when they got to England.

Fact - Taylor partied with the Stones at their Hotel the night before the show,
he was given the impression he would be invited to come out and jam with the
Stones on: Rock Me Baby. Taylor was given Back Stage passes, he was there!!
Taylor fans who came from as far away as New York were there, in front and
relayed the info I passed along to you. Jagger was pissed enough to go over to
the song list and erase - Rock me Baby from the set-list. Don't believe me?
check the records, they didn't play it that night and Taylor was never asked
to come out and play.

The facts quoted came from Taylor.

Believe what you will, I personally believe Taylor and the Taylor fans who
were there and saw it, 1st hand!!

I was there too, with only one person between myself and the very spot where MT was to have played. His two guitar cases were there throughout the entire gig, sadly unopened.

Still, I got his autograph as I was leaving the gig.

The real question is what happened at the rehearsal, did he show on time, and what kind of shape he was in? The Stones obviously scratched him before the show but why? An arbitrary act of cruelty by the Stones, or his demons got ahold of him and he showed late and f'd up?

For the record, I would love to see them play together but there are definitely issues that go way back that are quite difficult to overcome.

Steve, what's with all this stuff about "rehearsal" ??
were you there? do you know for a fact that was the "plan"?
And how do you know they "scratched him" before the show? If they did it was
news to him! I'm telling you the song they were suppose to play was on the playlist, Jagger was seen erasing it a few songs into the show... Does that
sound like a pre-show decision? He didn't show up late, he was there on time
but he wasn't invited to play after being given the impression he would.

It's no more than that, as much as your trying to put the blame on Taylor.

This issue seems to come up with some frequency. Here are a few theories: [iorr.org]

They should get Bill and MT back in the band for a series of shows at the LA forum and the Garden in NYC - ditch Wood & Jones - and play only material from Beggars to It's Only R'n'R. Really rehearse for them - record them for prosperity - and release a DVD/CD Box set.

Then retire.

...or publish a book with cooking-reciepes from the 50s.

And become like their ageing fans?

>Glam - Do some better research, the Stones were asked why Taylor didn't
play that night and their "Mouthpiece" whoever that was at the time give that
lame excuse: he didn't show up for the soundcheck...

Provide some evidence then.

And do you have one of these setlists that has "Rock Me Baby" "erased" from it? I saw one right after the show and it was not erased.

Glam,

Go to Smokey's link and READ...

There are comment's that the Stones were running late, Jagger's voice wasn't
up to doing: "Rock me Baby" that night, and they changed to Honky Tonk Woman.
Couple of different people refer to comments I made, Rock Me Baby was on the setlist, the setlist being a chalkboard on-stage and Jagger was seen manually
erasing that song..

Someone else comments that Jagger was pissed about something, Chuck L. tried
to console him, etc... Maybe it was just a bad night / bad timing..

Let's hope the Stones pull it off this time and have Taylor come out and play
the LEAD on SWAY!!!! Now wouldn't that be something!!!!

I did and I didn't see anything remotely resembling an "official" line from any Stones "mouthpiece".

Does Keith still answer questions on his website? I sent him a question regarding Taylor's non-appearance that night but never went back to see if he replied.

Glam, I would surprised as hell if Keith answered that question (online)
you would probably have to meet him, face to face to get a answer.

I got my info from Taylor's Web page (back-when) about why he didn't get to
perform that night, some of the comments on that link back to 2005 say the
same thing. That's the point I was making. Can't remember who in the Stones
camp, ( maybe Chuck) gave that as the answer as to why Taylor didn't sit-in.
But I've heard from different sources about what happened on stage that night
with Jagger not happy about something, Taylor fans said it was Ronnie screwing
up on the 1st couple of songs, Stones fans saying they didn't notice anything
wrong with Ronnie's playing ?? Who know's

Both sides that were there and close enough to see what was going on said they
saw Jagger go over and erase: Rock Me Baby - off the Chalkboard

Read somewhere else where Mick J. said he was having trouble with his voice
that night so that's sounds like what must have happened..

If Taylor actually sit's in when they hit England this year, then we'll know
for sure how much they are still friends, or not...
