How Far Did You Follow Bill's Solo Career?

How long did you last on the Wyman train? His solo albums while he was still a Stone were de rigeur. Then he did ARMS which was still pretty Stonesy-ish.
But after the split, when he becam,e Willie and those Poorboys I just couldn't hang in there. For starters the music IMO became so much worse. It's all this lukewarm tetrazzini of wash & fold "Blues". really boring. At leats on "Monkey Grip" and "Stone Alone" there was something to latch on to. Even if you hated it, the songs had an identity. and so did Bill. By now I know he's released about 10 albums of virtually identical schmaltz. And the promo interviews consist only of him still bashing the Stones of '06.
Is anyone here actually a hardcore Bill Head?
BTW - make no mistake. Bill Wyman on the Four String was a POWERHOUSE down in the muddy waters underneath the Stones! That rhythm section of Charlie/Wyman/Keith is untouched.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

I went to a Bill Wyman & the Rhythm Kings concert in 2001 or so. I was really dissapointed...but I can't blame Bill for it, it was just a 50's be-bop style, that I'm too young to like. Perhaps others dig it, but I didn't.
But he seems like a friendly guy.....if you don't pay attention to the recent interviews, which probably is distortet a bit.

I alway rather liked Monkey Grip & Stone Alone - as Chelseadrugstore says, de rigeur simply because they were on the Stones label, plus he had good musicians & was drawing on some of the same influences as the Stones at the time. Bill's dryly sardonic/occasionally humerous songs had some charm for me, then the '82 solo synth pop record which I truly disliked. The RKs are alright (the cds, I mean) in small doses, his excellent documentary/book/cd "Blues Odyssey" (better than Ken Burns) shows he knows & loves this stuff, but it comes off as blues without menace or dread, too cute and bouncy...There are some exceptions, tracks that work, but I rarely play these RK fiscs and I can't see it supplanting anyone's collection of the real thing.

for such a worthless, talentless guy, you sure seem to find his departure from the band very hard to take in that other thread and appear to want him to be forced to return!!! :-)

I like "Pussy". I mean Bill's song called "Pussy". I mean both. What do I mean?

Just a joke. I hope this doesn't get me banned forever. Not for a Wyman song!

What a stupid thing to say.

Buying his CDs. And it's not so good IMO. I got Stone Alone (The black one with red text and a posh Bill on the cover). It's REALLY some very bad stuff on there.

Saw him in Atlantic City a few years back. Great show, along with Georgie Fame and Gary Brooker from Procol Harum. Only a half-full room, with me and my friends screaming out "Perky!" during the whole show. He was really gracious and shook almost everyone's hands after the show. Highlight was Brooker's great rendition of "A whiter shade of pale"."

You cetainly don't mean this do you ?
That means that everybody that likes classical music, or old paintings, really don't understand their own interest?
And every moron that saw the Stones in the 70s, have the right to say any stupid remark about Bill Wyman or Mick Taylor?
You're out of touch here.

I didn't make it past In Another Land . . . his '70s solo albums always seemed kind of lame (as well as being out of print by the time I was curious about 'em) and, as for the RKs, I'm not enough of a traditionalist to really have much interest.

i'm beginning to think that bill wyman slept with melillo's daughter. why else would he hate him so much?

Maybe I'm misreading this but Willie & the Poorboys was way before Bill split w/the Stones.
