I picked it up with high expectations. Of course it is very good pop music IMO but I think all of them are better with their respective bands.

have been humming 'Steady As She Goes' non-stop all morning.

The combination of the great Jack White and the underrated Brendan Benson, works magnificently.

Did a small 'club' tour of the UK, in April which sold out in something
like 5 seconds.. they're coming back for the summer festival circuit.

They're debut album, 'Broken Boy Soldiers', is a joy to behold.

Its awesome...Love on the "Level"...very creepy, yet melodic...cross of King Crimson and Wishbone Ash...

When I started a thread about the same subject a few days ago it was deleted!
Anyway, I was disappointed. The thing is, with Jack White, you expect big things. This record is good, but it contains no surprise. There is very little originality.
So yesterday evening I gave the CD I bought to a friend. I'd rather just cherish the things Jack White did with the White Stripes.

Yeah, I bought this album too... I like it, but I am surprised how Zeppelinesque it really is. Especially that final track, 'Blue Veins'... The vocals are so very much like Robert Plant in the early days. How does that happen?

All said, I like the last half of the cd best, regardless of its retro-qualities. I think the voval harmonies are nice! I wish the songs were a little longer, because they are good. I was surprised that the cd is so short.

I like some of the White Stripes stuff, but I must say, this and the Loretta Lynn album he did show how good he can sound with a bass player and a real drummer.

Vocal, not "voval".... I dread to consider what "voval" could mean.

I'm in this camp. I was disappointed by the CD

I really like the record...retro-ish, but BRILLIANT...those harmony vocals...strange wacko psychedelic lyrics...I think Syd Barrett would love it!

Ack! Did I imply something impolite when I kinda inferred that Meg isn't a very good drummer?? Yes, I know, it is part of the WStripes sound, and JW admits it, saying he likes her to "sound like a 5 year old," but in their earlier records especially, I really can't handle it. And I do love a good bass line so. I stand by my words... I hope they do not offend.

JW's work with Loretta was nothing short of brilliant.

Not a bad disc (picked it up a few weeks ago and started digging it) but whats even better than the Raconteurs is WOLF MOTHER.

Seriously, go pickup Wolfmother's first disc. Its like the Hives meets Led Zeppelin. Very very cool music.

Correct Tate, Meg is not a real drummer, she is 'the one and only Drummster!'

@drake
You're so right. Wolfmother is really good. It's like a modern Uriah Heep, except that this time around the music is cool too.

"The One and Only Drummster"....

OK, I guess I can accept that! The drummster she is. And a darn fine one at that.

Forgive me... perhaps I, uh... oh, never mind! WS are great! Go Meg! Solo album!

I must be more careful from now on.
