I've been wanting to get a capo for a long time and brush up on my acoustic-Stones repetoire and finally play Jack Flash. Anyhow, I heard that they can damage the neck- dents and what not. Is that really true? Do they all do that, or just some? I mean, are there different kinds or what?

I've used one of those Dunlop strap things, which are like 7 bucks, for multiple used and it's never given up on me.

I've been wondering about this lately.. when I put it on I basically need to re-tune the whole thing which isn't very handy when performing with only one guitar, so does a quality capo like a Shubb also affect the tuning?

It depends on your guitar. I've got a guitar, which is the exact same way as yours. The neck can't be plain on that one.
But on my Telecaster, it's much better. And if your capo is fastened too tight...the tuning will be even worse.

shubb's are great; have 'em, use 'em...love 'em...

i use kysers too...very good at the quick change...
they clamp easily to the headstock when not in use...
very handy for performing and recording i find.

as far as tuning, usually one should tune up first, then carefully put the capo directly, immediately behind the actual metal fret....then make furthur tuning adjustments if necessary; the way one puts on the capo can sometimes knock it out of tune a bit...

One strength of the Shubb is that it has finely adjustable fretting force [applied by way of that screw visible in Open-G's kindly posted picture. Once you get the hang of using it, it's quite easy to pop it on and off without having to retune.
Not a problem for Keith of course...but most of us don't have somebody to hand us another guitar, tuned for the next song ;^)

I use a wider/longer shubb, ment for classic guitars, and it reaches over
12-string-guitars just as it goes on an electric guitar.

It's adjusable and just the best thing there is.

In f.exs. Tumbling Dice and Street Fighting Man (Which is in B (H in Scandinavia)) you tune the guitar into open G (D-G-D-G-B-D) and put your capo on 4th fret.

I prefer the Kyser as it is so easy use....however the rubber bung on the back of mine is starting to decay and split.

Hey open G if you send up some more licks I can add some of mine and we could get a virtual jam going. Easy if we all stick to 120bpm on cubase SX.

I've been travelling a bit so I couldn't put up something, now i'm back home but we have a short noticed gig coming up and need to rehearse - so how about you kickin' off some riff? I'll join ya.
120 bpm is ok, just make a slate noise at the beginning, ok.

I play in a Stones tribute band and handling Keith's parts I have to use capoes a lot.
I have a Shubb, like the one you guys showed, one of those Jim Dunlop with the leastic bands and even use one meant for acoustics.
