Songs about people changing?
Posted by: Jumpin'JackFrash ()

Hey gang, how's everybody doin'?

I've been trying to find a song about someone changing completely and treating people who are their friends in an awful way. I guess a song about people not being themselves and how it affects others, or a song about the people who are affected by the change in the other person.

Nothing's coming to mind right now.

Any ideas?

Thanks

How about this Beatles song...

I'm looking through you,
Where did you go?
I thought I knew you,
What did I know?

You don't look different,
But you have changed.
I'm looking through you,
You're not the same.

This one came to mind also, but I think that's just about someone who is fake and shallow, not necessarily someone who has changed. No?

"you got a lot a nerve to say you are my friend," cindy....

I mean everybody's right with the songs they suggested.

I've been having troubles with a friend who has just pulled a 180 on me with no reason at all. He is fake and shallow, but I'm listening to all the others too, and they're good.

a song we were talking about yesterday, on another thread.
'Can't Stand Me Now' - The Libertines

"An ending fitting for the start
you twist and tore our love apart
your light fingers threw the dark
that shattered the lamp and into the darkness cast us..."

"No you've got it the wrong way round
you shut me out and blamed it on the brown"
cornered the boy kicked out at the world...the world kicked back
alot @#$%&' harder...

If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie (I know you lie)
I'm still in love with you (oh oh oh)

Can't take me anywhere (I'll take you anywhere)
You can't take me anywhere (I can't take you anywhere)
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

OH, YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW YOU CAN'T STAND
ME NOW CAN'T STAND ME NOW
CAN'T STAND ME NOW

Have we enough to keep it together?
or do we just keep on pretending (and hope our
luck is never ending)...
You tried to pull the wool I wasn't feeling too clever,
you take all that they're lending
until you needed mending...

If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie
All you do is make me cry
And all these words they ring true (oh oh oh)

Can't take me anywhere (I'll take you anywhere)
You can't take me anywhere (I can't take you anywhere)
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

OH, YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW YOU CAN'T STAND
ME NOW CAN'T STAND ME NOW
CAN'T STAND ME NOW

Ha ha, I guess so.

It's weird. I feel that listening to songs about what's going on only makes it worse, like it's affirming the opinion that you have of the person. Although I guess in this case I could make an exception

I've been let down alot by friends recently, causing me to redefine the term a bit. You know your true friends - they're right there when you need 'em most and they are also right there when you expect them the least.

It's strange T&A, that's a lot of what my mom has been telling me.

I want to hold out for this friend and see that he eventually comes around back to his senses, but a friend would never say the things that he's said to me. We go way back to the beginning of high school, but without provocation, he feels like he can tell all our other friends not to hang out with me. It just came out of the blue. I've only seen him once since we've come home from college, and we had a fun time when we saw each other, and then four days later without any reason I hear him saying to my other friends, "okay, we're not going to be hanging out with The Colonel (that's my nickname)"

It's a hard thing to process.

That is a really crappy feeling which I can relate to. I have learned not to expect anything of anyone, and therefore I'm not disappointed.

Unfortunately that attitude makes you untrusting, which is not a great way to go through life. I'm trying to get better, it's a hard thing to balance.

Is a woman involved?

How about "Am I Losin'" by Lynyrd Skynyrd? and "Fake Friends" by Joan Jett?

First of - you need to change your handle here - The Colonel is much more refreshing than the umpteenth version of JJF here. Do that now, please. Secondly....hard as it may be hear this - this guy is nobody's friend.

Well, our boys' "Respectable" deals with that theme, though it is probably about hypocrisy more than it is about real change.

Yeah, I'm with you on both of these T&A. However I do want to add that if your other friends follow what this guys says.... I don't know.... do you want to be hanging out with a bunch of followers? It sucks to feel isolated, but in the long run, if they turned on you once, you'll always be thinking they'll do it again. I would separate yourself from them for a while and see if they come around.

No, a woman isn't involved at all.

Okay, hold your breath, here's the story.

I've had a lot of bumpy roads the past few years, I've explained it all before - divorce, moving, some girls (no not the album), transferring from university to university and a bunch of other things that I'm sure the older members here can vouch for as being a part of teenage life.

He was present for a lot of that, and helped me through it, which was great of him. It gave me a bum rap though of being the source of all "drama" in our group of friends, or at least that I had more than my fair share, but hey, everyone has drama at times. And I got overly emotional about the stuff and didn't know how to handle it, and would become stubborn and unchanging in my views, but eventually I'd realize it was all okay and would return back to earth.

So he'd put up with it, and things would get back to normal. It was only in 2004 and part of 2005 that this went on. From november or so, it's been smooth SMOOTH sailing for me - I'm finally settled at school, moving on with my life, with only little pithy things that have got me stalled for a day or two. It's been great.

So we both get back from school, and we go to see a movie the sunday that I came back. We were joking, laughing just hanging out like we usually do.

That thursday, I call another friend to tell her that I'm home, and that we should hang out. So my other friend calls and asks if I want to hang out. I said i'd like to, but that I said I was going to spend some time with my other friend (who used to be mutual between us, but is no longer). He doesn't like her one bit.

So I mention this to him, and he seems okay with it.

Here's the kicker...

My girl friend calls back and says, okay let's go hang out. What blows me away is that in the background I hear my OTHER FRIEND - why he'd be hanging out with her is beyond me. Before I hear him in the background, I explain that he's doing something else (which he was) and that another friend of ours who had just arrived home was most likely going to be spending the evening with his family, so it would just be the two of us doing something.

In the background I hear "HE'S A FCUKING LIAR!!!" And sure enough, it's the voice of my friend.

I didn't lie about anything, I only probably didn't explain things as best I could.

So now he's put a boycott on me. He's telling all our other friends not to hang out with me.

He's vile, manipulative, classist, and, so charasmatic that all his awful attributes are swallowed up.

This is a guy that I offered to give my one and only Stones ticket to in September, free of charge, because I knew how much he loved the Stones.

I feel like I've got a knife stuck in my back.

okay, you can all breathe now. Sorry.

It feels good to be talking to people here again, I feel like I've been out of the loop.

And this isn't even the whole story. I'd give my phone number if people want to hear the whole story, ha ha.

Anyways,

thanks.

P.S. - how do I change my handle

P.P.S. - You guys are true blue, I thank you for your friendship, even though we've never met. I feel like you all are friends

Also, "All Sold Out" might fit the bill. And one of my personal favorites - Under My Thumb - talks about change in a different direction.

Well, Colonel - bottom-line is that the guy ain't a friend. A little bit of guess-work on my part: he's the kind of friend who doesn't mind being there when you're down, but is maybe envious/jealous when you're not? Lotsa folks like that - they are threatened by others' success and/or good fortune....

Strange days these are.

Who got married? I sure didn't.

Feels kind of like an "December's Children (And Everybody's)" or a "Goats Head Soup" kind of day
