I have a funny story about how I got hooked in 3rd grade.

Windows '95 came out, and as we all know, that nerd at Microsoft (I'm a Mac man) used "Start Me Up."

I couldn't understand what was being said in the song, and so I didn't understand he was sayihg "Start Me Up,"

I thought he was saying something like "Hekesavio."

So whenever the song would play at sports games or on the radio, I'd say hey dad, it's the windows song.

"Get out of my cloud" in 1965, I was 11 years old and could not go to school becauce the stairs was full of beggars and homeless. So I use to sit up at night and listen to radio Luxembourg and heard this easy refrain "ha ha he he"
that`s where I learn my poor English.

We even got it up here! I've got a tape (these old "big" tapes) recorded by my uncle......Little Red Rooster and The Last Time from 1965!

<You have good taste in music TatteredTongue. So does your brother.
I do. He doesn't. He liked the Stones just enough to buy a greatest hits of them. Before I got into them he liked them a little, now I don't even know anymore. He's been a metal music kid since forever (favorite band is Metallica). Now since ALL I do is listen to Stones all day on my speakers, I think he got annoyed and stopped liking them alltogether.

It's funny. He and his (I think best) friend tries to convert me into liking Metallica instead of Stones. And they talk about how they could never do anything Metallica has done. I say "DUH, The Stones are a rock & roll band and Metallica is Metal. Two totally different types of music."

In '71 I was negative 19.

Tumblin' Dice. Heard it on the radio, and ran out and bought Exile. After that, all my Beatles records started collecting dust...

I was 12 and I bought the single on London Records, CONGRATULATIONS with TIME IS ON MY SIDE as the A side. I liked the B side better at that time and wore it out! After that I bought everything the Stones put out!

I was on holiday in Belgium 1964 and could not stop playing the Juke Box in the pub in Ostend and played the songs 'The Last Time'/Play with Fire' over 100 times.
I recall one mature woman who was in my fathers company stating tell your son to stop playing that shreiking wailing song sung by these long haired unwashed louts who have absolutely no talent and that they would just dis-appear like a passing fad. (she obviouly new sweet f--k all)
As i was only 15 at the time i should have told her to go to blazes but i had been brought up to be respectful of my elders and did not voice my opinion.
However i did continue to play 'The Last Time/Play with Fire' over and over again and Ostend,Belgium is where i became the' Stones' fanatic that i still am.

Stones40 is privelged to have seen the 'Stones' in live concert for the last 5 decades but that does not make me more of a fan than anyone who has just seen them once.

Brown Sugar when I was around 12 I heard on AM radio. SF was one of the first records I bought. I loved that but still did not get into other Stones music for around 5 years after that. I was a huge fan by the time SG came out and that would have been the first one I bought the day it came out.

TatteredTongue, this is scary - by the time you heard your first Stones' song, I had been a fan for 25 years. Man, they've been around for a long time . . .

you guys are lucky to become fans at such a young age. If I had become a fan when I was ten, I might've been able to see them at the Licks Tour.

Mixed Emotions in 1989's christmas, at the radio. I was 6.
My dad bought me the Steel Wheels tape in early 1990... I never heard music like that before!, it was an incredible experience for my ears, something new, fresh and exciting. My dad bought me other 3 tapes in 1990-91 (Hot Rocks, Rewind, Flashpoint). I got recorded cassettes from some friends's brothers (Tattoo You, Main Offender, Wandering Spirit) but I bought my first album (and CD) in 1994 (VL).
