"What do the expercts say ?"

The real experts or the pseudo experts - most of the time, the pseudo experts are noisy, whilte the real experts keep low profile....

Yeah, nice work on Moonlight Mile, too. And doesn't he play on Fingerprint File? He's not what I'd call a good guitarist, but he has kind of a neat rhythm guitar style.

Yeah but Keith said that in this tour Mick played very well the electric.

Mick is a good player. I have seen the bonus tracks of the Gimme Shelter movie, where he is jamming with Tina Turner in 1969. And he improved over the years, so he started to play on stage in 1978. You can hear his guitar playing on Waiting On A Friend and Let It Bleed the tour after. Also he did some important studio work; for example the first riff of Hold On To Your Hat and Rain Fall Down.

These days he is not an important guitar player on stage. I think, he could do it better (and/or louder), but the main things in a concert are singing and moving.

But I also think, that he is not a full guitar player though. I mean, Richards, Wood etc. are experts. So Jagger can do many things: He is the best frontman, a great songwriter and harmonica player and he also playes some guitar, piano and percussion.

On tour Mick should focus on singing and not playing guitar.....

Ronnie, Keith and Blondie are playing guitar - that should be enough..... if too little guitar, Ronnie should play more......

When Mick is playing guitar he looses concetration on singing..... and his performance becomes worse, because he overdoes his guitar playing, makes silly faces etc.

He is a solid rythmn player, nothing more or less, he cannot play and sing at the same time very well, usually good for the first few bars then leaves it alone after that. I'd rather see Mick singing and performing than looking at his fingers on the fret board.

agree with the above two posts - at best it's a prop for Jagger on stage and it often does distract him from his main duties. best (worst) case in point on this was Crazy Mama on b-stage during B2B tour....he completely @#$%& up the singing....

Meanwhile MIck has developed into a real good rhythm guitar player. Face "Goddess" and "ABB" ...

If you got your guitar tuned in open g or e....to play what he plays on BOMH is like letting go of a fart. (with all respect for Mick, and farting in general).

see Erik, I'm not a guitar player,thanks.....but I do fancy myself as a world class farter, seriously. I resent the implication. I suggest you think twice before you bash a good farter.

On the extras of gimme shelter I was suprised at how good he was playing backstage with Ike and Tina Turner.

I tend to talk negative about farting, as I play guitar, sorry mate. But I was good at both, some years ago when I loved liquarice.
If I sell my guitar, I'll get to buy quite a lot of that stuff.
Untill then, I take the guitar-side in this matter.
Keep the whistle hot!

You mean the "Jagger-on-guitar-thread" or the "farting vs. guitar thread"? I hope you meant the first. Lukester and myself are leading it in the right direction.

To me honestly I don't like him on guitar. yes, he is solid on rhythm. The best track he evr cut is "Stop Breaking Down". That sums up Jagger to me. That very full chord strummming. He plays all six strings at all times; that is what I don't like too much. His singing is so full and frontal, that his guitar p;laying follows suit. It seems like he is perfect to play in rehearsal, for others to follow and know what is going on. But for the recording when subtlety is needed he should not play.
"Sad Sad Sad" is another example of his playing.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Maybe if the Stones would be more creative, we would be too . . .

Is this really the matter ? I have always thought that he nowadays plays some guitar just to allow himself a break between his running.

In the booklet of Jump Back Keith salutes Mick Jagger's rythm guitar, during the Respectable interview.

Did you expect something different from Keih about Mick on this topic ?

To me he is a good ryhtm guitarist for sure
He has shown he could play a bit of slide too.
I wish he could play a guitar solo now.
Maybe for the next tour !! let's be optimistic.
