Subject: Keef will need surgery
Date: Friday, May 05, 2006
Time: 11:58:35 AM

I just spoke to somebody who is very high up in the Stones family, who does not wish to be named here - and will not be. But this person told me that although the Sun newspaper was usually full of it, at least the story about Keef needing surgery is true, and was about to happen or already has happened. He also told me that it was not likely the tour would be able to pick up on schedule, but he was guessing on that point, as he pointed out, how could Keef be ready to play that soon after surgery? His guess was that the first week might be canceled, but that isn't official by any means.

He also told me that yes, the Stones had already made some bookings at a few venues for a return to the US, for some fall shows. This was a surprise to me, as I never believed this story to be true. I just kept recalling the same talk we heard on the last tour about this happening - and it never did. But I was also told that yes, it is suppose to take place - but, now that Keef had his accident, that could change plans. Guess it will all depend on how Keef is feeling in the next few weeks - or even months.

You all know that I usually don't report this kind of stuff, but this person who I just spoke to should know more than most would, and he is not a normal contact of mine. So that is why I report it here. Lets all hope for the best for Keith, nothing else is more important than him getting better, even if a few shows end up being canceled.

Subject: RE: Replies to several of you.....
Date: Friday, May 05, 2006
Time: 10:05:55 PM

As I usually like to do, I'll respond to several in this one reply.....

Nothing Blues
>BTW, did your source give any other details about how the accident actually happened, or did he confirm the "official" story, i.e., the coconut tree thing?

I didn't ask. The reason for this phone call was that we were talking about other things that took place within the band years ago, which I'm covering in my book, when I threw in the question about Keef. I had to ask, and no, I was not expecting the answer I received.

Keefer
>Did your source happen to mention the locations of the few bookings for the fall?

Again, I didn't think to ask, as this tour info came up after we talk about Keef's condition, and I still had that on my mind.

LYL
>At no time did they say it was his life threatened. They (the Sun) may have reported that in a later story?

They must have, because he told me that the first reports from the Sun had reported that Keef was half dead. He didn't seem to like the Sun at all.

>The other interesting thing about this development is the credibility of Stonesdoug.

No, not at all! Sources are not always right, and it still could be that my info is wrong, not his.

>I don't doubt that he was told what he reported. I am sure he shared information with the best of intentions. However if this report from Keno is correct then the information he shared was not correct. Or tried to hide the fact that some surgery would be necessary.

I believe that the Stones would say that all was well, as they would not want this news to get out, especially since the tour is still on. If this news was reported by them before all the facts are known, people would cancel their plans to go to the shows and tickets sales would die - fast!

Torn & Frayed
>Casting no aspersions on you or your source, Keno, but this dis/misinformation clusterfuck has become quite onerous...

Agree. Not that this info has been proven in error, but I already wish I didn't share it, and why I don't normally share this kind of news when I'm told things. It isn't that I can't trust my sources, most of the time they are correct, but not all of the time. So as you all know, I stopped reporting this kind of stuff several years ago, other than a few things here and there. So why did I report this? It was because of who the person is who told me this. He is not a person I normally talk to about the Stones. I only got to know him because he knows a friend of mine who is inside of the Stones camp, and he is helping me out with my book. This guy knows just about everything about the band, more so than anybody else, other than the Stones themselves, especially when it comes to the band's past history. Believe me, you all know who this dude is, so please just place yourself in my shoes for a second..... This dude tells me Keef needs surgery. You run the oldest (and very busy) Stones board, and you have many friends at that board who care deeply for Keef and they want to know how he really is doing. You heard this morning that he is fine, and no surgery is needed. Then this person, who you know for fact is very deep within the Stones family, tells you other wise. What do you do? Do you tell your friends at the board? Do you not tell them and then after the news hits say something like "I knew this before hand and didn't tell any of you"? Well in the past I have done just that, and I've taken shit for it. So that was why I reported what I was told. I felt all of my fellow fans needed to know this. I also know that even though this person is very high up, what he was told could still be in error. If that does turn out to be the case, then I, and only I, will have to live with it, as I did not and will not ID this person. But I would find it hard to believe if this isn't true. I could even see the Stones not confirming this and even perhaps cancel the first week of the tour, and just claim Keef needs some more rest, without explaining why. There are so many things that can come out of this. But again, had you been told this by the same person I was told about this, would you have shared the news here with you friends?

I really didn't stop to even think that some will look at this as "that board was right and this board was wrong" kind of deal. Had I, I would not had reported this news, as I do not what it to be anything like that. That isn't why I run this board, never was, I don't give a damn if Gasland were the busiest board on the internet, or the one that gets the best scoops (we clearly aren't). I am not that kind of fan and I don't look for those kind of things. I love the Stones for their music and I run this board for my fellow fans, so that they can learn from others about the band and their music. Nothing more than that. But the last thing I want is to see what I'm already seeing. Stonesdoug is a very creditable guy and what he digs up is for the good of all Stones fans, so please do not think any less of him or his sources if this news I was told turns out to be true. I would not have reported it if I didn't believe it was true, but if it isn't, then please don't think any less of me or this board, either. This should have nothing to do with one board over the other. I can tell you this, if Keef doesn't need surgery, then us webmasters really can't trust any of the Stones' sources most of the time, period, because if this dude got wrong info, all of the other sources from time to time will have to get it wrong too.

Re: Keith in Hospital

Thanks triplelicks for posting this from keno.org

It seems more credible than the Sun, because we must assume Keno does care about the sources - and about the Stones. But it is also "typical" to see a post on the various boards based "on sources close to the Stones". And they are not always right. Far from. I think that we may just have to wait for an official announcement or - perhaps - a post from our own Bjørnulf. He normally is double - or triplechecking his sources before posting.

The picture in the Sun ? Is it credible ? Convincing perhaps, but credible ? I don't know....

i just found this ...

Bo Rejoins Rolling Stones

The music world was rocked recently when The Rolling Stones announced that Bo Bice would replace Keith Richards after Keith fell out of a palm tree. (Don’t ask.) The Lady Bomb Escorts blog broke the news on May 1st, but quickly reported a rift in the new band:

Twenty-four hours after a press gathering where Mick Jagger announced that Bo Bice would replace an injured Keith Richards until the guitarist mends from a recent fall, Bice hastily arranged his own press conference this morning and in a loud voice said he would leave the Rolling Stones effective immediately.

Apparently the problem was Bo’s insistence on incorporating his original tune, Chick, I’m the Dude for You into the Stones’ set. (Obviously Mick didn’t get the memo that Bo’s a songwriter who plays his own instruments.)

Anyway, I’m happy to report that all has been resolved.

it looks like Bo Bice and Mick Jagger have ended their spat - Bo Bice is back on lead guitar for the Rolling Stones. The feud centered on Bo’s desire to add Chick, I’m the Dude for You from his hit album Bice-A-Roni to an already well-oiled Stones repertoire. Sir Mick said no – Bice flew the coop. Then he smoked some weed and changed his mind.

It’s all scummy water under a modern bridge now as the world’s greatest rock band gets ready to rehearse. The Biceman stands in front of Keith’s array of guitars and tries to decide which one to use in his debut with the Stones this Saturday night in Barcelona.

“That one, the red one - it’s awesome,” says Bice.

what a f**k ?!?!?!?!!

I believe the Sun story. Keith had his drilling and is in the NZ hospital unable to fly until the Docs say he can - sounds fine so far. Jagger is there and is fumming - sounds about right, I would be...Said the show goes on Keith or no Keith. This is why I reported yesterday that he was talking to Jeff Beck (and I assume others) - friend heard it on the radio in San Diego. They brought in 3 guitars to the hospital - 3, 1 for Mick, 1 for Ronnie, 1 for Keith. Maybe they will jam and come up with some songs.Probably have a toy kit for Charlie (like Street Fighting Man.) It all sounds totally possible to me........

Yes Lorenz, that was me in the chat with Darryl (I post as Bitch there), I thought it was worth a shot! I suggested he should have a contest on his website for back stage passes or on stage seats in London. He actually said he would look into it, but I doubt anything will happen. Aint too proud to ask, beg, plead, and if all else fails my credit cards will pull me thru, again, lol.

Ya know ONE DAY Baboon Bro and Icdog were in their pick-up truck driving through Bakersfield, California listening to gospel music on the old radio station when a preacher came on and said ,"yaaa Know, you alwaaaaaysss have the Lord by yer side"...they were so pleased to be informed of this that they said "He is OK/Sun is Rubbish" 20 times in His honor (even though it didn't change a F*ckin thing) ....Thank you Jesus, Thank You LORD...

So if you're down on yer luck/and you can't harmonize/find an old guitar player/with out-of-focus eyes (from Brain surgery) YEPPP !!!............

The Mantra: KEITH IS OK/JOHN LENNON IS STILL ALIVE/KEITH IS OK/JOHN LENNON IS STILL ALIVE/KEITH IS OK/JOHN LENNON IS STILL ALIVE (keep saying it - it will make it all true. And then, click your heals 3 times - that works too) .....

This is madness... Can we agree that from now on only he or she who has information confirmed by a named Stones-organization source, or a named member of the Rolling Stones can write about how Keith is doing!? So many wanna-be-close-to-band-but-wount-blow-source-idiots have written crap here.
1: This is too serious a matter to use as a means to get personal attention.
2: If we don't f*** up, maybe we could have properly updated info from insiders, like the musicians or the organization...
3: I'm so damned tired of this and I wanna go to Barcelona and Madrid. If Keith is ready. No stand in acceptable!

Let's turn this into a Taylor vs Wood topic, shall we.

Mick Taylor plays some awesome octave riffs over the chorus part on You Can't Always Get What You Want. Listen for Taylor's guitar, it's very easy to hear it on any boot from 1972/73. The one particularly from like Philadelphia rocks real hard IMCO.MEZ

Ay ay baby it hurts

No we can't agree shidobee because the Stones "organization" is LYING THROUGH THEIR @#$%&' TEETH" and I for one am TOTALLY pissed off about it. There are people on here, Stones fans everywhere that are gonna spend a TON of money to get to Barcelona for the first show and if the first show (or first week, or first month) is not gonna happen it would be nice to tell the fans before they loose a ton of money. The Stones camp is being as secretive as the US Government - it's sickening !!! If you're tired of this get the # and call the Stone's office in London - don't blame us dude - I'm TOTALLY effing sick of this too......

Now listen to the IMAX video, Ron puts down some blazin' hot blues licks on the You Can't Always Get What You Want solo..

In my correct opinion, if ya listen to the 1976 tour on boots, we mostly listen to the standard SB recordings: Paris, Lyon, London and Knebworth. These recordings are dry and lack any athmosphere. But when you listen to some good audience recordings of some of the 1976 shows, Munich, Frankfurt, Paris, The Hague, and a whole different picture arises. These 1976 were quite good actually!

Ay ay baby it hurts

First of all the only imporatnt thing here is the health of a fellow human being. Next in the old days news travel on foot.Took a long time.People dealt. Now it travels true or not at the speed of insane. The"offical" word is the man is ok.That is also the word from the "leaders" of all these "Fan" sites. That is all there is. So they are either telling the truth,(all of them) or they are not.We have seen rehashed "news"reported over and over here because folks just don't seem to think about things anymore. If Keith is not ok then its serious and means much more to his family and frineds than our travel plans. If he is, or if they are just waiting to be sure before they say anything then so be it.I just don't get the over all feel of any of these sites. I think its time we all sat back and waited. Maybe go outside breath the air and maybe talk face to face with another human being. A lost art. So now rip into me.
