OT: Johnny Winter on possibly incredible tour....

Please see the link below.... Johnmy Winter is touring everywhere in the U.S. and Canada this spring and summer...

What I find interesting is the "Band" link... he's touring with a 5-piece band right now. I think they intend to do major damage...

Last time I saw him it was an incredible trio.... but with a quintet they should just smoke & take no pirsoners....

One of the very very greatest blues guitarist who ever lived.... Don't miss Johnny Winter live coming to a venue near you...

We recently had a thread hear about how sorry we all were about Johnny's bad health.

A great backing band won't help if Johnny isn't is good shape. People come and pay to see him, and sadly what they had in the recent years was only a shadow of the great Johnny Winter from the 70ies

Well, that's their take...

I saw him a few years back and even though he's frail he plays like 2 guitarists in one... and that was with a trio.

He's sellin' out everyone this tour hits now... see following link:

Just close your eyes and rock out... that's what Johnny does.

Check out the pictures below of Johnny with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix... Muddy waters, Frank Zappa... this guy is such a classic.

He got his start at age 17 when BB King asked him onstage... what a player.

Do yourself a favor and listen to Captured Live instead.
See original thread about the downfall of poor Johnny.

I don't see why he can't play with Edgar and Rick Derringer for an entire tour, that woudl take the burden off him. In the meantime, Edgar is a member of Ringo's latest All-Starr Band. That is a little sad.

Johnny's hands are so fast... that's the key, He's not real physically robust, and he's basically blind, but his hands know the blues like very few guitarists ever. That was my impression. You were asking yourself... where's that other guitarist ???

People can miss the boat because he's frail... he's ALWAYS been frail. This guy just knows the blues... they're in his hands..... the favorite sun of Leland, Mississippi.

I thought Captured Live was an excellent album, from the standpoint of musicianship...

We must have listened to different albums.

I don't think it's Johnny's best work, but in terms of sheer guitar playing it's fine.

Actually, we must have listened to the same albums.
You admit yourself it's "an excellent album, from the standpoint of musicianship",
and then go on to say "in terms of sheer guitar playing it's fine".
Well isn't that what we're talking about now? Johnny in his glory years?
And I never said it was his "best work", just thought if you want to see and hear Johnny live,
this would be the place to start, rather than paying to see him as he is nowadays. It's a sad story.

I don't see how he can possibly do a schedule as long and grueling as this one. Someone is either extremely optimistic or Johnny recently got a complete body transplant.

I just LOVE what he did with Muddy Waters. The Blues Had A Baby, And They Named It Rock 'n' Roll!

I saw him about four years ago. He had to be helped to the stage and into his seat (he sat the entire show). His hands shook and his entire body trembled in a palsied fashion EXCEPT when he played the guitar. Then he still had his old fire. Unfortunately the repetoire was very Blues 101 and drew little from his own body of work.

I saw him Friday night in Montreal ( in spite of the previous thread).

There was a big splash in the local press that he had cleaned up, was much better, in good health etc. DON't BELIEVE IT!

This guy is very sick and I left halfway through the show it was so pathetic. I feel sorry for the guy. Why anyone would let him still tour is beyond me.
