How was the crowd? Were they standing up, singing and all or were they quiet and move their glowing stick as they usually do?
Was the show broadcastest on tv a success?

It was a great crowd but I would not call it Chinese. Shanghai is one of the world's largest cities and it makes even New York and London like small cities, as it must be 20 million people or more. With an airport train that is doing 430 km/hour, state of the art, and you are there before you get time to seit dowwn. In fact Shanghai is a modern booming city with thousands of western people making business there, and they were the majority of the crowd. Certainly there were Chinese people there too, but none of the people you meet on the street, on their bicycles, street vendors, or even stock or finance people. Well a few ones but it takes some more time to get to the Chinese crowd. Uniformed officials front row. And fans flying in from USA, Europe and Asia. And many westerns on some sort of travel or work in Shanghai. That was what it was about. To be honest, the shows in India was the only ones in Asia the past few years (oustside Japan) where normal people could attend.

Bjornulf, were you there??? LOL, Damn! I can not believe it. I want to be your little brother or something. And come along too.
Do the Stones help you out finacially at this point? They really should. You are turning into one of the world's top personal reporters of their history.

LOL BV was two people down from me hangin on the security railing at Ronnie's side, and I agree, at least where we were, the crowd was decidedly Caucasion. The upper reaches of the stands were more traditionally Chinese. But before this is turned into a negative...for me, that is one great part of it, many of these people now lived in China, if only for business. This is a land that when I was in High School you could not even get into as a tourist. Change is the only constant.

Close to end of the show - they were so bored with the short setlist, that they let a big bag with sand fall from the roof on the middle of the stage where Jagger is normally standing.

It was not a big sand bag and nobody was bored. I have seen many shows, a few slow ones but this one was certainly not slow. This time they played in front of 8,000 people. Who knows may be the next Stones tour will be all over China. Remember China is 5 times bigger than USA, 20 times bigger than UK, 300 times bigger than Norway. Bring in the right people and the right ticket price and it will be business as usual.

"So is China 5 or 20 times bigger than USA.."

Probably meant 20 times UK or France / Italy or countries with around 60 million people.....

I read in the paper that some of the crowd went out after for the traditional "German Shepard and Mushroom Pizza"...anyone have a confirmation on that?....

They did not sell anything I mean anything so there was no reason for leaving. I think they had coca cloa and some other limonade, and I did actually buy chockolate. And water. And there was a small starbucks there selling tiramasu and coffee. But they did not sell anything. Very un-commercial in fact.

In today's Politiken - Danish daily - there's a whole page article about Stones in China :
- about Deutsche Bank being sponsors and flying 300 foregn investors in for a free concert - they apparently enjoyed it a lot....
- about the promoters not inviting a lot of people from Chinese press - but instead inviting people form Politiken, local Finish newspapers etc. - made part of the Chinese press silent or critical claiming Stones to be arrogant and discriminating......
- about ticket prices...that they were actually more expensive for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
- about the fact that....it was an excellent concert smiling smiley

PS: No link - so far - to this article.

The consert in China got some very good critics in Ekstra Bladet - a danish newspaper similar to The Sun. They gave the consert 6 stars out of 6 possible.

[ekstrabladet.dk]

BT, also a danish newspaper similar to The Sun, gave very good critics as well.

So, despite bags of sand flying through the air yawning smiley)), they still make headlines and give conserts better than any other band.....

You just missed that Bjornulf has edited his post at 15:56 - some 25 minutes after the original post and after other people had continued the thread.....

But who cares, it is human to make an error - all of us make a mistake here on the board once in a while.......

Question to nikkibong: What is wrong with you? Why change a message to make it look different than the original message? Just for fun eh?
