Issue 150 of the excellent music magazine Mojo, is published today. One of the regular features, is "How to buy...", featuring the top 10 albums of a selected artist, each month.
This month - The Rolling Stones. 2 pages, looking indepth at the top 10 choices... and the albums to avoid.
there's top 10 in reverse order are:-
10..A Bigger Bang 9..Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out 8..Forty Licks 7..Some Girls 6..The Rolling Stones (Newest Hitmakers) 5..Aftermath 4..Beggars Banquet 3..Exile On Main St 2..Let It Bleed and No.1 ..Sticky Fingers
Avoid these!...Emotiona Rescue, Dirty Work, and any live album (apart from Ya-Ya's)
** Also an article on page 18, about the 8mm camera film of Keith getting electrocuted (3rd Dec '65 Sacremento, during The last Time)
their list is certainly defendable. If they are including 40 Licks they might as well include Hot Rocks too if they are going for efficiency. I don't think that there are that many bands that have 10 albums worth owning. So I was surprised that this is a monthly feature. Any way to access these lists on line?
Every one of those choices is defensible as a classic album, but clearly Tatoo You should replace Forty Licks, and then to make sure you get all the great pre-Aftermath tracks, replace England's Newest Hitmakers with the Singles Collection (yeah, cheating a little, but who cares.)

**gasp**
That may be among the most outrageous things I've ever read. Replace the sheer brilliance of the best album from the Brian Jones-era Stones with the tedium and mediocrity of VL or BaB?
Sorry, that's just plain silly, and suggests you are too young to truly appreciate the pre-Beggars Stones and how great they were.
The "avoid" list is silly - no Stones album should be "avoided", they're too good. And the albums they've chosen - e.g. lots of Dirty Work and Emotional Rescue is excellent.
About the top list - Ya-Ya's should've been at or near the very top!
Im sorry, but this list seems good. I think its good because if you are new to the stones, these are the albums to get. Dirty Work, Black and Blue and Emotional Rescue might be good for hardcore stones fans, but to people getting started on listening to the stones, these would be poor albums to get. There are virtually no classic songs on these albums (thats not saying there arent good songs), but no memorable songs.
..useless threat...quality of MOJO had been discussed before....it is getting worse and worse....and such lists are also very subjective, propably one personal opinion...and that`s always a question of taste....
Nothing new under the tropics. I just question the choice of Forty Licks. Tatoo You or IORR were a most evident choice to my own point of view. Good point to list ABB. The order is another issue.

No I really love it. One Hit, Sleep Tonight, Dirty Work, Back To Zero, great stuff!!
That whole "most Stones live albums suck" has become the standard overused phrase like "Micks sucks solo". Don't people get tired of never giving anything another chance? I'd personally rather listen to Stripped and No Security ANY DAY over albums like IORR.
