Exactly. Very similar to Fillmore in the "small ballroom" format. And what could possibly compare to that hall for legendary performances?

Where I think Irving Plaza has the edge, though, is the neighborhood. Irving Place is a very cool little street that runs from Gramercy Park South and dead-ends into Fourteenth Street. Great burgers/pub food at Pete's (one of the oldest saloons in Manhattan, coffee at 71 Irving, sushi at Yama and so on...and Union Square is only a block away. As cool as John Lee's Boom Boom Room is, I'd have to give NYC the edge on this one.

Greek Theatre, Berkeley Ca.

....BUT, you really can't beat Madison Square Garden for raw energy. When the band and crowd gel, it's the best place on earth.

Sir, ever get to the Beacon Theater or Radio City or Irving Plaza?

Btw--in that order.

Also, this sounds, on the surface silly cause it is an areana (thought the acoustics are far better then you might guess) but there is something about MSG that, especially with this band, makes it such an.........event.

Yes, I am a provincial NYer of the very worst kind.

What about Cirkus Stockholm?
I mean that was when the boys placed 20 songs and did an outstanding version of Sympathy and Ronnie asked Mick for another encore which Mick denied.
You saw clearly the fire on stage and the fun they had to play.
Stockholm seems to be a very special place for the Stones.

I once went to a little gig in upper state New York...1969 I believe it was...great line up (but no Stones) rained a little and not enough porti-johns. I heard there was some bad brown acid going around. Jimi was good....

I don't think there is such a thing as a "best concert venue". There are great venues, good venues and bad venues, but I truly don't believe that there is one that is truly superior to anywhere else half decent. UI guess it's reasonable to have a favourite venue though. Wit that in mind, I'd plug for somewhere like The Shepard’s Bush Empire or the London Forum in Kentish Town. Reason being, because I've seen many wonderful gigs at these places.

I've always wanted to go to Red Rocks but DTE Energy Theater (formerly Pine Knob) north of Detroit is a great place.

Atlanta's Fox Theatre is a great, historic building with super sound.

The Crawdaddy Club and The Cavern Club would have been a lot of fun in their day!
