OT: Opinions about Herman Brood
Posted by: jackflash27 ()
Date: March 16, 2006 13:22

Just listened to cd 'Shpritz' of Herman Brood. I own it a few years, but again it really blew me of my chair. This is really rock 'n roll. Any of you guys know this cd? If you like the stones, you must enjoy this one. It includes the hit 'saturday night', but almost every song is really really great!
Do you share this opinion? If not, why not.

Agreed, best shit ever to come out of Holland!

But is this guy known outside of Holland? I was surprised to hear that a lot of americans know about the Golden Earring. So here's the question: if you're not dutch what dutch acts do you know about?

I'm worried about the answer. 2Unlimited supposted to be the best selling act from Holland ever! Shocking Blue had the only no.1 hit in the USA with 'Venus'.

I really thought the mighty Venga Boys was the biggest selling act (with such classic hits as Boom Boom Boom Boom and Up And Down)!

I think 'radar love' made it to no 1 in the US too.
But really, many americans know about the 'Twilight zone'. Not that that is the best record ever made, but still I was pleasantly surprised.

Shrimp,
In 1981 the Stars on 45 had a number one in the US as well.
Herman Brood was quite popular in Germany.

Other Dutch acts: Nits are extremely popular here in Switzerland. Candy Dulfer is known too.

I'm from Holland.

Dat dacht ik al. Echt geen hond buiten de Benelux kent Herman Brood. Terwijl je toch zou verwachten dat een aantal van z'n nummers voldoende kwaliteit hebben om op een classic rock station in het buitenland langs te komen.

Bettie Serveert tours the US regularly.

Same here. I'm dutch, but don't like Brood's music either.

Are there dutch acts that you guys (dutch or not) listen to, besides Brood? Never liked bands as Kane, Racoon, etc. The only dutch act I listen to every now and then is Beef!, a reggea band from Eindhoven.

Just went to see BluesBrotherCastro a few days ago, who are touring the US now. They are on their way to Memphis, and then Austin, so if you live there go see them.

And Brood (IMNSHO) is one of the best R'n'R acts ever from the Netherlands.

Of course!

I'm not dutch and I know Golden Earring, Shocking Blue, Cuby & The Blizzards, Livin' Blues and a couple more acts from the 60's and 70's. Great stuff.

And Herman Brood, of course, real great when he was at his best.

Ekseption, Earth & Fire, Focus...whadda you wanna hear?

Not to speak of MOR/Mainstream acts like George Baker, Cats, Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers, Stan The Guitar Man, BZN...and Pussycat were also from Holland, right?

herman was succesful around the time of spritz in usa.
"saturday night" was kind of a hitsingle.
but his fame didn't last long.
in germany he still has a cultstatus.
his rock' roll junkie image made him very attractive
for people who found keiths lifestyle in the 70s romantic.
but his drug and alcohol abuse ruined his health.
in his early 50s most of his organs were shot, and he
committed suicide by jumping out a window of the amsterdam
hilton i think.
checking out of your last hotel...
rest in peace, herman.

Herman had an album out in the USA in 1979 called Herman Brood And His Wild Romance. The lead track, "Saturday Night" got some airplay. I liked it a lot. It sounded like a Stones song. A GOOD Stones song. Unfortunately, nothing else on the album was anywhere near as strong as the opener. Americans haven't heard much about him since. Wasn't he married to Nina Hagen or something?

Herman Brood and his Wild Romance: Best Dutch Rock 'n Roll band ever, even better than most other Rock 'n Roll bands from all over the world, past & present.

Some former Wild Romance members are still playing in other bands:

group "wild romance".

Just remembered Tee-Set, with hits like Ma Belle Amie and She Likes Weeds. And the Outsiders with Wally Tax.
